Mentorship Meets Mission: Building Kansas' Physician Workforce

KansasCOM’s inaugural class has now completed its first year of clinical rotations, gaining hands-on experience in hospitals and clinics across Kansas and the country. Our students are learning from more than 400 dedicated preceptors like you who model the compassion, adaptability, and skill that define excellent care.

Preceptors play a vital role in preparing student doctors for residency. Because most physicians stay and practice in the state where they complete their residency, these early clinical experiences help lay the groundwork for long-term service in Kansas communities.

In this story, meet students Matthew and McKensie Bevens, a husband-and-wife duo from Topeka who hope to open a rural clinic one day. And hear from Rajendra Nidal, an aspiring cardiologist from Andover. Their stories, and the guidance they received from their preceptors, are powerful reminders of why this work matters. KansasCOM welcomes fourth cohort to graduate in 2029

We recently welcomed accepted students from 24 states to campus for Accepted Students Day. The event offered future student doctors a first look at the people and purpose that define our institution.

We’re grateful to the faculty, staff, and Admissions team who made the day a success. As these students begin their journeys, we’re also thankful for the preceptors who will help shape their future clinical experience and professional growth.

Timely Evaluations are a Critical Step in Student Success

As a reminder, please complete student evaluations promptly at the end of each rotation. Timely feedback supports students in processing their clinical experiences and allows us to submit final grades on schedule. We’ve recently updated and streamlined the digital evaluation form to make it more user-friendly and efficient for you to complete. Your continued partnership in this important step is truly appreciated!
