I was telling my Saturday Tai Chi class this story about how the more I practice Internal Arts ... the more I notice "parables" unfolding in my life ... where little events are a macrocosmic view of BIGGER issues in life ... they got a good laugh.

So, I went to my local gym's sauna (which I HIGHLY recommend), and there was one guy sitting in there when I got there. I often make friends and have conversations with folks in the sauna ... but this guy didn't acknowledge my 'wave and nod' because his face was buried in his phone screen, and he had big ear plugs in his ears.

As we sat there, I started hearing what he was looking at and listening to. He was listing to an old song from back in my day. It was "Why Can't We Be Friends?" by WAR, the 70's funk band.

My first thought was, "Well, we can't be friends because your face is stuck in your iphone and your ears are plugged with ear phones, and your missing out on the whole world around you" ... but I could hear the song a bit and kind of started singing along with it.

Eventually, he took out his ear plugs, put down his phone ... and we made friends after he saw me mouthing the words of his song. Being "present" is a powerful thing. We are all spreading the word "OF THE POWER OF BEING PRESENT" to humanity via the Internal Arts ... and that is a beautiful thing. :-)
