Renee Simon Plaque Dedication Ceremony
Yesterday, I was honored to speak at the El Dorado Library plaque dedication ceremony to celebrate the remarkable contributions of Renee Simon. The plaque was created in recognition of her many achievements as a prominent Long Beach civic leader, historical author, activist, city council member and founder or active participant in numerous local non-profit organizations. This tribute ensures that future generations will know her legacy and dedication to establishing El Dorado Park as a shared space for all to cherish.

Java Lanes & Wolfschmidt Vodka
The Caltrans proposed Pacific Coast Highway Bike Lane Project only involves a short length of PCH in Council District 4. It runs from the Traffic Circle up the hill to 19th Street that diagonally connects PCH with Redondo Ave. This quarter-mile stretch along the north side of PCH represents less than 8% of the total length of the proposed bike lane. However, as short as this section is, part of it has been prominently featured in a previous Go Fourth! Friday newsletter.
On June 23, 2017, we featured the attached photos to show the changes that took place since 1980. You may not recognize the black & white photo as a Fourth District location, but it was taken on the north side of Pacific Coast Highway, just west of Termino Ave. facing west. That's the famous Java Lanes cantilevered roof to the left. The color photo below it was taken from the exact same location. The Grand Ave. condos replaced Java Lanes, and the Bay Hill and Marbrisa residential buildings replaced the Wolfschmidt Vodka billboard.
