You may (or may not) have noticed this is only my third issue since May 5 (I promised you I would never spam you). I aim to get one out about every two weeks, but life is exactly why I have never said “Every other Tuesday” or “Twice a Month”. It gets out when it gets out. I want you to be aware for the next little while you may be getting them a little more often than every few weeks. I have so much I want to share that the only way I can is to release them more often. I hope it is not so much you remove yourself from the list. Just delete it. It will slow down again (if it even picks up in the first place—being very optimistic!), I promise….

Yay! DONUTS!
Some of you who have read this from the beginning know that I have an obsession with good donuts (carbs , sugar—what’s not to like? (see past articles here)
I
just found out there is a
DONUT TRAIL
---yes you read that right—in Butler County, Ohio, thanks to Margaret O’Gorman, CMP, who is with the Butler County CVB. So you do not have to pull up a map, it is north of Cincinnati, in southwest Ohio. I may have a chance to be there next year and am so excited! They have a passport and if you have it stamped at all 11 Donut Shops (this definitely is a multi-day event for most of us except maybe college students), you get a t-shirt! Check it out…

Wow. This article really has me thinking about me, flying and also how it effects meetings and will in the future. Will people refuse to fly across oceans to come to our events? It may not be as far-fetched as you may be thinking.

Water Bottles—need recommendations!
As you have probably heard , later this month San Francisco airport will be banning plastic water bottles.
We know plastic is slowly being banned a lot of places , and we need to adapt for many reasons. I have been wanting to buy one of those metal (?) water bottles that everyone has, in fact I have a beautiful one. The problem is I find the size too big for the way I travel on planes. I’m looking for a 16 oz (approximately) and the “standard “ size seems to be 24 oz or more. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

10 Foods You Can (And Can't) Bring Into the U.S.
Travel Channel
I
’ve never tried to bring anything back except pre-packaged food. I think also I feel I can find so many things here it is not worth it. But in case you are thinking of bringing the “real deal”…
Review this guide before your next trip abroad to avoid making common food mistakes. Even experienced globetrotters are sometimes stumped as to whether or not they can bring home olives from Greece or chutney from India, so how is the average traveler supposed to know? Therefore, consider this guide a handy resource for your travels abroad. As a general rule of thumb, foodstuffs sold at airports and stores catering to tourists are more likely to get through Customs.

This Travel Backpack Is the Perfect Carry-on, According to Hundreds of Amazon Reviews
Travel + Leisure
I don’t carry a backpack , but every once in a while I see one that someone in front of me has on and I think “Maybe….” For those of you who do…
Courtesy of Amazon we just found the perfect travel backpack to take with you on flights. And no, we’re talking about some flimsy two-pocket backpack that can just, like, fit a lot of stuff. We’re talking about a padded travel backpack that was specifically designed to double as a carry-on, thanks to its myriad of life-changing amenities, such as adjustable/removable straps and even a USB charging port.
New! Gift Cards !
Ever wish you could have some help paying for your CMP class? Or have the money to have The Guidance Counselor for Grown Ups (that’s the other part of me) work with you?
Now –your friends and family have the opportunity to help you move forward. Yep—I now have gift cards. They can be applied to anything I provide. It may not be as glamorous as a piece of jewelry, or as delicious as a drink at your favorite coffee place---but it will help you get to where you want to go.

CMP Master Class at Sea – January 16-18, 2020
Deadline to register is Sept. 17, 2019
Yep--I'll be teaching this. This MPI Global class will be held on Celebrity Cruise Line leaving out of Ft. Lauderdale. One of the things I am very excited about is in addition to the class itself, which will be broken up through the cruise, we will get to do some behind the scenes tours and talk about how they pertain to doing meetings on cruises. Remember you can already have your CMP and attend. Anyone who has ever taken my classes knows they are not just on taking the exam. You will earn CE’s for you application or re-certification.
5th Annual Meeting Planner Workshop - University of Florida

I'll be presenting this session
"Get Out of your Office and Have a Seat in the Chair! Planning from the Attendee’s View"
Are you relatively new to meeting planning? Or a seasoned meeting planner, whose been planning meetings for awhile and for the most part nothing big goes wrong. But maybe you’re thinking “Is there anything more? Have we done the best that can be done?” How can we create the “optimum learning environment” for our attendees—without blowing the budget?
Plus all the classes listed below!

Did you know that according to the PCMA Salary Survey that meeting professionals with the CMP earn an average of $8600 more a year? (see below in Careers for link)
Is the CMP exam on your list to do?
My Two-Day Intensive Class
Did you know you can earn 16 Continuing Education hours to apply or re-certify for your CMP by attending? Yes, it is framed around the CMP Domains, but it will also show you how to be better at what you do---or want to do.
I make a decision 2-3 weeks before the class is held as to whether there is enough registration to hold the class. If you know you are taking it please register before those dates! If I am holding the class and there is still room, I will continue to take registrations. What I hate is when I cancel a class do to registration numbers and then people contact me going “I was going to take it!”.
All Classes are Saturday and Sunday and registration is open for all.

I'm working on several classes between September and December: Boston (a second class in December) , New Jersey, New York City, Pittsburgh and possibly a really great city in the southern part of the US….more to come.
All classes above are eligible for the "Take Twice" option. You do not have to take both classes in the same location. Please email
Joanne@JoanneDennison.com
for your comp form and let her know when and where your first class was.
Even if you've already taken the class twice, you're more than welcome to attend another as long as there is room.
"I found Joanne’s CMP boot camp critical to my success on the exam. The study materials can be overwhelming, and Joanne is expert at distilling the vast, complex information into easy-to-understand, digestible bites The small-group environment is inviting and supportive, and I came out of the course having the confidence to continue studying and sit for the exam. I also took advantage of the “pay once, take twice” option, which really helped my preparation – I appreciated the second chance not only to revisit the material but to process and understand it on a different level. Trust Joanne and her years of experience as an educator. She wants you to succeed, and her tips and tools will come in handy as you sit in front of that computer screen. You can do it!"

t MPI WEC in Toronto this woman came up to me and said “I know who you are!”. She proceeded to tell me she had found my videos before her CMP exam and felt they were an important part of her passing. Meet Robynne Weaver , CMP of GES in San Francisco! Thank you Robynne for making me feel like a celebrity! That was not the purpose of the videos , but I am always excited to hear from someone , especially those who did not take a class from me, that they helped! That’s what they are there for---and they are FREE!

Career and Jobs -
They are not the same!
Are you looking to get a Promotion? Raise? New Job?
Stuck as to what to do next?
T
hrough the other part of my company, The Guidance Counselor for Grown Ups, I work with people and organizations to not only figure out what to do next, but also how to do it.
I offer Teacup Meetings. Buy me tea and you get me (One time only) for 60-90 minutes. Yes, we can do it virtually—gift cards are always accepted! I will not push you to hire me—promise. Unless you ask about working with me afterwards, we don’t talk about it.
It’s a great way to get that promotion, raise, new job—or deal with a challenging situation. It can be used to talk about CMP, but not actual CMP prep. If you are a business owner we can talk about your role in the company, but not the strategy in your business (that’s another part of my company and always glad to talk about that too).
In the meantime here are some interesting articles about your career.

How You Start or End Your Emails Could Be Costing You at Work
Travel + Leisure
Writing the perfect email can be a delicate process in the workplace. And it’s not just figuring out when it’s OK to reply all. Boomerang data scientist Brendan Greenley looked at over 350,000 emails and found that many people in the workforce don’t exactly know how to strike the right tone in their messages — which can decrease the likelihood of getting a reply. The biggest issue with email messages came down to two things: greetings and signatures.
