Purvi Gandhi and Veronica Wu worked together from 2016 through 2020 successfully partnering to institutionalize a new model that Wu had set out to build in 2015. Via their model, they partnered with hundreds of operator angels to access the highest quality tech deals in early and growth stage, largely in Silicon Valley and selectively also in other parts of US and Europe. This model showed strong results by 2020 with a dozen unicorns and 1 IPO from early stage portfolio and two IPOs from growth stage portfolio in less than 5 years with a high level of distributions to the investor. Wu tapped into the top operator angels to build partnerships while Gandhi led the broader institutionalization of the platform to implement rigor in due diligence, thus created in a balanced portfolio that generated strong IRR and liquidity. They also raised significant capital from an institutional investor to continue putting larger checks in follow-on rounds of the top early stage companies.
Gandhi & Wu have now spun out to set up their own firm in Silicon Valley called Minerva-Tech Ventures. Fundamental to their model and highly differentiated from most VCs is their partnership with the wide, deep and highly fragmented network of operator angels who gain early access to deals and then as a company’s round has institutional VC firm in lead, they will bring in Minerva-Tech.
Stay tuned for their TIDE Ten interview of Patrick Tsang, Chairman of Tsangs Group.

Non-Profit Highlight of the Month... A non-profit near and dear to TIDE's very own Kim Au, who is based in Ireland, is Mi-WOW. Mi-WOW is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Social Fund under the Programme for Employability, Inclusion and Learning (PEIL) 2014-2020.
Mi-WOW trains migrant women and prepares them for the Irish workforce via hard and soft skill training. The majority of the women involved in the scheme were university educated in their home country but were employed in lower skilled jobs in retail/ hospitality due to a variety of factors. Unfortunately the Irish workforce has a long way to go to highlight awareness around this issue.

RFK Compass Investor Virtual Summit
October 28
|
|
|
During this time of urgency and opportunity in our country and the world, the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Compass Investor Program is convening decision-makers from the investment sector who control close to $7 trillion in assets under management and economic and social thought leaders and activists. At our first RFK Compass Virtual Summit, we will explore the issues that are upending our society — from the COVID-19 pandemic to the widening racial and economic gaps — while identifying solutions the investment sector can implement to effect change.
As a sector that wields enormous capital, power, and influence, the investment community has profited tremendously in times of social and economic unrest, but this moment calls for a new approach as we chart a way forward.
We are excited to invite you to our fall RFK Compass Investor Virtual Summit on October 28, 2020, from 12 to 5 PM EDT, as part of an urgent call to action as we approach a critical election.
