An Altar of Remembrance
This year, as we celebrate All Saints'/All Souls' Days, our Altar of Remembrance returns. While many cultures celebrate some festival for the remembering all the faithful departed, we embrace this tradition from Mexico where these tableaux are set out in homes, churches, and in other community gathering areas around the time of Día de los Muertos - the Day of the Dead (All Saints'/All Souls' Day).
All St. Bede's parishioners and friends are invited to bring photos of loved ones who have died to place on the altar that will be set up in the Commons (photos may be framed or unframed, and name labels help us all join in the remembrance). Other items representing loved ones who have died may also be placed there - favorite foods, a small article of clothing, or anything that brings that person to mind.
Photos and other items may be placed on the tables set up to the left of the entry doors to the Nave any time between Sunday, October 25 and Sunday, November 8. Items may be picked up any time after November 8.

Children's Formation
for Children Age 3 - Grade 5
Join us for Children’s Formation (aka Sunday School) between Morning and Afternoon Worship. We’ll gather the kids during the fellowship time, around 11:45 am in the Commons, and then move to classroom M-102 in the Mission Wing. This formation time focuses on learning about the stories of the People of God and growing in understanding about what we do in church worship. The curriculum used is primarily Godly Play combined with lessons from other resources.
All 3-year-olds through 5th graders are welcome to join us. Older children are welcome as helpers and younger children may join with a parent, grandparent, or other caregiver. Both classes are taught in English.
We need additional teachers/helpers for this age group. Please contact Molly Graves at mgraves@stbedes.org to volunteer or for more information about our children’s faith formation program.

Blessing of
Halloween Costumes
Sunday, October 25
During 10:00 am and 1:30 pm worship on Sunday, October 25, the Young and Young-at-Heart, dressed in their Halloween costumes, are invited to come forward to receive a blessing for care and protection as they head out into the community for trick-or-treating on the 31st. This blessing is also offered as a celebration of childhood imagination and wonder.

Thank you, Randy!
Last Sunday was Randy Roberson's final Sunday with us as our (extended) Supply Organist - he committed to one month and stayed for three. We are thankful for Randy's time with us and for sharing his musical talents and gifts. And don't worry - we know how to be in touch with Randy and look forward to welcoming him back for worship or fellowship, or whenever we may need a Sunday supply organist in the future.

Calling All Lay Weeders!
Do you enjoy getting your hands into the dirt and making the grounds at St. Bede's look a little better at the same time? We are forming a "Lay Weeders" group to give a little TLC to our cultivated garden areas. While trying to eliminate all weeds on our campus could seem an overwhelming endeavor, picking a small area - the bed around the mailbox, the entryway gardens, the garden at the end of the Mission Wing, the Memorial Garden - could make the task fun and manageable. We would also love someone to "dead head" some of the flowers and water the planters. You could consider spending an half-an-hour to an hour once or twice a month to have some fun with others and make a big difference in keeping our grounds neat and tidy. If you are interested, please let us know in the office and we will try to help to get the group connected and going.

Next Show Opening
"Small Works and Treasures"
November 14
Thanks to everyone who made the most recent Art From the Heart
Gallery show so successful. You helped by volunteering your time, talent
and wonderful appetizers for the Opening Party, by purchasing art, or by
enjoying the work displayed. It was our most successful venture yet.
As you can see, the current show has come to an end and if you purchased
something and have yet to take it home, now is the time. Please let Lois
Shingler know you are doing so, or if you have already done so.
Our next show will open on November 14 th with our usual joyful
reception. This show, “Small Works and Treasures,” like last year’s holiday
event, will feature work suitable for holiday gifts as well as work that you
might find you absolutely need to grace your own spaces. Some of our
participants will have their work on tables set up in the Commons, and
there will be work displayed on the walls.
Anything purchased on the day of the Opening can be taken by the purchaser that day, so if you or your friends are looking for unique holiday gifts, this is the place. The tables will only be there on that day.
Following the Opening we will have work available to enjoy or purchase on the walls and in the cabinet, as always.
The Opening Event will take place during the afternoon and early evening
of November 14. We will announce the actual time of the event as soon as
it is settled. This show will continue until January 8, 2027.
If you have questions, please contact Lois Shingler, afthgallery@gmail.com

Finding Healing
for Our Divided Country
Now meeting weekly
on Monday evenings on Zoom
from 6:30 to 8 pm.
In person every Thursday morning
9 to 10 am
at Mint Coffeehouse
3926 Lawrenceville Hwy in Tucker
A discussion group, grounded in prayer, for those who have questions, concerns, and emotions that feel too big, and need a safe place to process with others.
We will see what participants need from this group. Perhaps it will just be a place to express what you are feeling, or maybe some will want to know what action can be taken.
And we will pray together.
Some questions to consider:
How are you doing, and what are you feeling?
Where are you in terms of processing changing public policy?
How can we live the values of our faith
in the face of conflicting public policy?

Lunches for Church of the Common Ground
On Sunday, October 18, 7 of us gathered early in the morning to make 80 sack lunches for the unhoused members of COTCG. And later that morning, 6 of us worshipped with the parishioners of COTCG at Woodruff Park. It was a gorgeous fall day and a wonderful experience to worship alongside our downtown neighbors. I am so very grateful to all who supported and participated in this wonderful day! Thank you so very much.

Update on El Refugio and Stewart Detention Center
We will have a team of St. Bede's folks who will travel to the El Refugio hospitality house and Stewart Detention Center on October 27 and November 14th. The need for visitation is so great that El Refugio is starting a small initiative to have seasoned volunteers visit during the week when there are fewer families visiting. I went twice this summer, and each time I was able to visit with several detainees. The conditions at the prison continue to be horrible, but El Refugio has been advocating for change.
We will leave the gas card box out on the small table every Sunday. We continue to pass out gas cards to every family that stops by the house. Please pick up a card or make a donation (cash preferred) to the box, and we will buy the gas cards for you. Many thanks for your compassion for our immigrant neighbors.

OUTREACH DONATIONS TO
EPISCOPAL RELIEF AND DEVELOPMENT (ERD)
The Outreach Committee voted to send another $1,000 to ERD for disaster relief in Nepal. We have sent a total of $3,000 to ERD in the past several weeks to support relief efforts from earthquakes in Venezuela and Colombia, fires in the West, flooding in the Midwest and Hawaii, and now to Nepal for support for victims from horrific flooding there.
This support is possible only from your generous financial gifts to St. Bede’s. Thank you everyone for supporting our worldwide community and loving like Jesus!

New Digital Assisted Listening System
for St. Bede's Nave
Thanks to a a generous grant, we have upgraded our Nave sound system with a new digital assisted listening server. This digital server will stream the Nave audio directly to your smartphone and, from there, it can be delivered through wired headphones, Bluetooth devices, or, if you have smart phone enabled hearing aids, the audio can be streamed directly into the hearing aids. Our hope is that this system can improve speech intelligibility for any who have a difficult time hearing or understanding the spoken word in the Nave.
The FIRST STEP to use the new system is download the "ListenWIFI" app onto your smartphone by clicking on one of the links below. The app is free and does not require any type of registration or password (thank goodness!). The app will not work until you are at St. Bede's and connected to our Wi-Fi network.
The SECOND STEP is to arrive at St. Bede's and connect to the new "St. Bede's - Guest" Wi-Fi network which is an open network that requires no password (thank goodness, again!). The system will not work if you connect to the old "stbedes" password protected network.
Please let us know if you need help connecting!

Magnify:
A Women’s Justice Retreat
Nov. 16-19
Camp McDowell
Nauvoo, Alabama
All lay and ordained Episcopal women involved in ministries of justice and inclusion are invited to connect, be encouraged, build intergenerational connections, and bolster leadership for future women’s ministries.
Offered by the church’s Office of Gender Justice in partnership with lay and ordained women from several dioceses, Magnify will offer times for worship, prayer, Bible study, and teaching on women’s leadership.
Magnify will take place in Alabama, long regarded as a crucible for justice ministries both within and beyond The Episcopal Church. For women in particular—especially women of color, immigrant women, women living in poverty, and LGBTQ+ women—Alabama represents not only struggle but also the powerful witness of unsung saints.
“By gathering in the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama, we seek to learn from diocesan and community leaders on the ground who are holding the line for God’s inclusive love and Gospel-based work for human dignity and thriving,” said Aaron Scott, the church’s gender justice staff officer.
Mark your calendar and watch for more details to follow.
