BLACK HISTORY MONTH
The DEI committee is excited to sponsor ICS’s February Black History Month’s assembly speaker, Angelica Gonzalez Graham from Eastside for All. Angelica is the Community Response Organizer at Eastside for All, whose goal is to create a strong sense of belonging for black, brown, indigenous and immigrant students. Angelica would like to implement a stronger sense of safety and belonging through advocating for equitable public safety in East King County. Eastside for All’s mission is to “transform East King County into a place where racial, economic, and social justice are made possible for communities of color.” Their goal is to build infrastructure that will grow with the community, leaving a legacy for newcomers and future generations who call East King County their home.
What is Black History month?
Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Black History Month celebrates the rich cultural heritage, triumphs and adversities that are an indelible part of our country's history.
