Most family child care programs work with children in a mixed age environment. one of the major concepts supported in a Montessori environment is allowing the children to learn from each. So, the younger ones learn from the older ones and new skills are reinforced by allowing those children who "know" to mentor/help the ones who don't know.
The Montessori method is grounded in the beliefs that children have a natural inclination to learn through all their senses and blossom when given a supportive environment that is thoughtfully constructed. It is hands-on, experiential, and supports the younger children being mentored by the older ones. In turn, social-emotional skills and self-regulation skills flourish and help build a solid foundation for growth and development.
Here are some articles from our Resource Library for more in-depth information. Our class catalogue has a variety of Montessori classes for professional development.
