When Should You Consider
Replacing a Computer?
Decisions around when to consider replacing a computer are not always straight forward.
Start considering replacing a computer when it is around 5-7 years old. Even so, this is only a guideline because with proper maintenance a computer can last longer. There are many factors involved in the health of a computer - it's not only the age.
However, as a computer ages, the User may run into many issues that are not easily resolved.
1. Your operating system is out-of-date.
EXAMPLE: you have an operating system which is Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8 or even an older operating system. You may no longer be able to receive Windows updates from Microsoft.
2. Your current software is not compatible with Windows 10 (or even with the current OS being sold called Windows 11)
EXAMPLE: you had to buy a new printer, or you want to use a software application that “used to work”. Compatibility with an older computer and an older operating system is a real concern.
3. Turning on your computer (booting it up) takes quite a long time.
EXAMPLE: We’ve had Users complain that it takes 10 minutes to just start their computer.
4. Everything I try to do on my computer “is slow”.
Often computers that are 5+ years, have a slower type of hard drive. Newer computers have what is called a SSD (Solid State Drive) hard drive.
5. My computer is very noisy (and slow).
Maybe you are hesitating about even looking at a new computer or upgrading because you haven’t backed up your data. You are afraid of losing your data. (data is documents, folders, and pictures).
Computer Care Associates can assess your current computer.
We can back up your data in preparation for a new computer purchase. We will also review your software to see if the software can be reinstalled into a new computer.
At Computer Care Associates we have technicians who are very experienced in not only consulting about choosing the right computer for you, but in working with you on all the stages before the purchase – and setting up the new computer after the purchase is made.
We research your options within your budget for a new computer.
The project costs will include backing up and copying your data to the new computer from the old computer, and setting up the new device.
Rest assured, we work with our customers and listen to their concerns. Our goal is to make your technology and computer experiences as easy as possible (and not a painful process).
