I love this image.
If you've read either of my books: "Hired!" or "Unexpected Mentors." or attended my webinars/keynotes, you'll know this is one of my favourite images.
It appears throughout the interview...and almost always at the end of the interview.
Interviewer: "That's all of the questions I have for you. What questions can I answer for you?"
You: (Deer in the headlights look appears on your face.) GRIN.
If you haven't planned any questions in advance, the following questions will likely pop to mind, in this panic situation:
· What is the salary?
· What are the benefits?
· When do benefits start?
· How many weeks' vacation?
· When can I take vacation?
And, the list goes on. Sure, all of these questions will get answered in due course, but they do nothing to make you stand out at the end of the interview.
In "Hired!", I asked some leading Canadian executives the best end-of-interview questions they've ever been asked. And, they had some great ideas to share!
Here are a few ideas for you:
· I see from LinkedIn you've been with the company for 5 years. What do you love about working for the organization?
· If successful in being selected for this role, what will training look like?
· What has been the biggest challenge employees have faced in this role?
These questions engage the hiring manager in a dialogue. It will also help you to be a stand-out candidate...in contrast to those who are asking the typical (...and boring) end-of-interview questions!
And, one last note - write your questions down and bring them with you to the interview. The less you have to remember in an interview, the better!
