More Than $50,000 in Cash Prizes Will Be Given Away

September 14, 2024 in Port Huron

ANNOUNCING A CALL FOR ENTRIES

FOR THIRD ANNUAL MI SNACK COMPETITION

PORT HURON, Mich. – The MI Snack Competition based in Port Huron, Michigan, has announced a Call for Entries for its September 14, 2024, competition.

Formerly known as the MI New Favorite Snack competition, the contest will award more than $50,000 in cash prizes at the event, with the top award recipient also receiving a distribution agreement with All Star Services, a Break Room Services company based in Port Huron.

The event, in its third year, last year awarded more than $75,000 spread among five award recipients.

“Last year, more than 50 snack makers from across both the Upper and Lower Peninsulas of Michigan competed for the prize money,” said Thelma Castillo, president and CEO of the Blue Water Area Chamber of Commerce. “We encourage those who did not win last year to return, and we look forward to seeing what new snacks have been dreamed up in kitchens across the state of Michigan.”

Deadline for entries is July 12, 2024. There is a $200 fee per entry for companies located outside of St. Clair County, Michigan, and a $100 fee per entry for companies located in St. Clair County.

All entries will compete in three categories for cash prizes of up to $10,000 per category.

All St. Clair County competitors will also compete for additional cash prizes of up to $1,000 in each category.

Companies must meet the following requirements to be eligible for participation:

  • Must be headquartered in Michigan
  • Must have 10 or fewer employees

"We have dramatically reduced the number of business requirements this year in order to open up the competition to even more businesses statewide and from throughout our own community," said Castillo. "We are excited about the prospect of discovering even more unusual and flavorful snacks from across the state of Michigan."

All businesses registered for the competition will be invited to participate in the MI Snack exhibition held in Port Huron, giving them access to event attendees who can sample and/or purchase packaged goods.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday, September 14 at the McMorran Plaza in the heart of downtown Port Huron. Judging will take place at 3 p.m. The event is open to the public from 4 to 6 p.m.

All snack makers who enter the competition are invited to come and sell their wares at the event.

"It is a really fun festival atmosphere and many of our snack makers sold out of their product last year," said Castillo.

All competitors will be provided with a 10' x 10' space, an eight-foot table and two chairs. Competitors must provide their own 10’ x 10’ pop up weighted tent (no stakes allowed in the plaza).

The MI Snack Competition is presented by the Community Foundation of St. Clair County, with the following partners: All Star Services, and the Blue Water Area Chamber of Commerce.
