🚨 The FTC Is Not Going to Shut Off Your Phone 🚨

The Federal Trade Commission is warning about a new impersonation scam in which callers claim your phone number has been linked to criminal activity and threaten to deactivate it.

The scam can become surprisingly elaborate, with fake FTC officials, phony badge numbers, supposed police officers, and demands for personal information.

Eventually, victims may be threatened with arrest and told to send money as a security deposit.

The FTC says its employees will never ask you to send money, threaten to disconnect your phone, tell you to keep conversations secret, or text an employee ID to prove their identity.

If you receive a call like this, stop communicating with the caller and report the scam through the FTC’s official fraud-reporting service.

The Cool Tip:

A government badge number, official-sounding caller, or scary threat does not make a call legitimate, so slow down and verify before sharing information or money.

• Xbox Is Testing Cloud Gaming Without a Game Pass Subscription

Xbox is testing a new way to stream games without paying for a Game Pass subscription.

Xbox Insiders can now purchase blocks of cloud playtime, with introductory pricing of $3.99 for 10 hours, $7.99 for 25 hours, or $11.99 for 50 hours.

The paid packs provide an ad-free experience with shorter wait times and high-quality streaming, and purchased hours remain available until they're used.

Players still need an eligible cloud-playable game they own, or access to a supported free-to-play title.

Microsoft says the option is getting an early preview with Insiders before a broader rollout planned for November.
