June 2023 - Newsletter

Public Service Month Greetings

At PSCU Credit Union, we are honored to serve our community and recognize the invaluable contributions of public servants nationwide.

This month, we invite you to join us in celebrating the hard work, dedication, and selflessness of all public servants.

From healthcare heroes and educators to firefighters, police officers, government officials, and community volunteers, public servants play a vital role in shaping a brighter future for us all.

To express our gratitude, we are excited to offer an exclusive promotion on our wide range of products and services throughout Public Service Month. It's our way of saying "thank you" to those who make a positive impact on society every day.

We encourage you to take part in this special month by sharing your own inspiring stories of public service, expressing gratitude to the public servants in your community, or simply taking a moment to reflect on the significance of their work.

Together, let's celebrate the incredible influence of public service and the exceptional individuals who make it all possible.

From the Board, Management, and Staff, we thank you for your continued support and commitment to our mission.

Dream, Dare, Deliver!

We thank all our members for coming out in numbers and participating in our Annual General Meeting 2023.

Preparation for the End-of-Term Examination

If your child is overwhelmed with the prospect of an upcoming test, rest assured that there are ways to not only calm their fears but also boost their confidence and ability to concentrate.

With a good strategy in place to practice mindfulness and the subject matter together before any upcoming tests, your child will be able to go into their test with their best foot forward.

The PSCU Credit Union in conjunction with its Education Committee presents you with some tips to help your child prepare for tests:

1. Prioritize attendance and homework: Tests are ultimately intended to be a measure of how well students have learned the material being taught in class. Therefore, it is important for children to attend school regularly and complete their homework assignments.

2. Communicate with teachers: Teachers can provide valuable insights into what will be covered on the test and how best to prepare for it. Encourage your child to ask questions in class and seek help when needed.

3. Talk to your child about test taking: Discuss the importance of staying calm and focused during the test. Encourage your child to take deep breaths and take breaks if needed.

4. Offer positive reinforcement: Praise your child for their hard work and encourage them to do their best.

5. Support healthy habits: Ensure that your child gets enough sleep, eats a healthy diet, and exercises regularly. These habits can help reduce stress and improve cognitive function.

6. Give your child a study space: Create a quiet study space where your child can focus on their studies without distractions.

7. Keep testing in perspective: Remind your child that tests are just one measure of their academic progress and that they should not define their self-worth based on their test scores.

8. Debrief after the test: After the test is over, discuss what went well and what could be improved upon next time. This can help your child learn from their mistakes and improve their performance on future tests.

International Men’s Health Month:

Experiencing Your Best Health

Throughout June, Men’s Health Month aims to encourage boys and men to take charge of their overall health by implementing healthy living decisions.

It is an important opportunity to highlight the importance of men's health and to promote and support the health and well-being of men and boys in our communities.

The aim of International Men’s Health Month is slightly wider than its domestic equivalent, aiming to increase awareness of general male health issues and to encourage inter- and intra-national institutions to provide better care for health issues affecting men around the world.

Because men's health is still an emerging issue, IMH has been helpful in bringing awareness of the issue to areas where men's health has yet to become accepted. Countries in which men's health has come to be viewed as a more legitimate concern have collaborated with men's health activists elsewhere.

Friday of Men's Health Week has been officially named Wear BLUE Day for the week.

Organizations and individuals can host a Wear BLUE day to raise awareness and money for education about men's need to seek regular checkups or testicular cancer education, prostate cancer education, or other health issues that affect men.

Fun Fact

Did you know your liver's size fluctuates significantly throughout the day?

While studying mice, a team of Swiss researchers found that the mice’s liver cells swelled and contracted up to 40% daily.

Though research is being conducted on whether that happens to that extent in humans, one study from 1986 found a person’s liver swells about 20 per cent between day and night—presumably related to the fact that the liver is not working as hard when a person is sleeping.
