REMINDER: Public Comment Opportunity: Draft Transportation Criteria Manual

The City of Cedar Park is developing its own Transportation Criteria Manual (TCM), a technical guide that supports the goals and policies of the Mobility Master Plan (MMP). Unlike the MMP, which is a policy document, the TCM establishes clear, locally appropriate design standards and consolidates transportation regulations into a single, easy-to-use resource.

Key reasons for creating a Cedar Park TCM include considering other municipal design guidelines and crafting a TCM specifically tailored to Cedar Park's unique needs on shared-use paths, safe crossings, traffic signals, and modern intersection design, all aligned with the MMP.

We invite the community to review the draft TCM and share feedback during the public engagement period from October 10 through November 10.

Yard Debris and Stormwater

As cooler weather is starting to set in and fall colors are starting to appear, it won’t be long before the trees start to shed their leaves. It is important to remember not to blow or sweep these leaves into the street, storm drains, and drainage systems.

Yard debris, including leaves and other organic plant material like tree and shrubbery trimmings and grass clippings, are a significant source of stormwater pollution.

When yard debris is blown or swept into the street, it can clog storm drains and cause drainage and flooding issues by clogging curb inlets and pipes, which cause water to back up and flood within the drainage system or the creek.

Yard debris should also not be discarded into the creeks and drainageways. When yard waste is discarded within the stormwater drainage system, it will decompose. Decomposing yard waste can supercharge the creek with nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus, causing algae blooms, resulting in low dissolved oxygen.

The City of Cedar Park's annual Fall Yard Trimmings Recycling is currently underway! Yard trimmings such as leaves and grass clippings must be placed in brown paper yard waste bags, separately from trash cans and extra items.

Tree and shrub trimmings must be no more than 4 feet in length and no more than 4 inches in diameter each, weigh no more than 40 pounds, and be placed in bundles that are tied with rope or twine. During this yard trimmings recycling period, yard trimmings may be placed in addition to your bulk items limit of 7 items outside of your trash cart.
