On June 12, 1876, Union National Bank, now Univest Bank and Trust Co., opened in Souderton. The bank initially operated from the home of Henry Souder while a permanent building was constructed on Main Street for $1,477. That original building, which opened in 1877, is now the Univest “museum” housing the original handwritten bank ledgers and artifacts from the past 150 years.
Over the ensuing 150 years, Univest expanded both geographically and through the financial solutions it provides. Today, Univest offers consumer and commercial banking, insurance, wealth management, equipment financing and mortgage solutions. Univest remains headquartered in Souderton and, as of June 30, 2026, had $8.2 billion in assets and $6.2 billion in assets under management and supervision through its wealth management lines of business.
“Reaching 150 years is an incredible milestone, and it is only possible because of generations of employees, customers, shareholders and community partners who have placed their trust in Univest,” said Jeff Schweitzer, Chairman, President and CEO, Univest Financial Corporation. “While our organization has grown and the way we deliver financial services has changed dramatically since 1876, our commitment to building relationships, doing what is right and supporting the communities we serve remains at the heart of who we are. We are proud of our history and excited about the opportunities ahead.”
Throughout its history, Univest has continued to evolve to meet the changing needs of its customers. In 1973, Univest was established as a holding company, and in 2003, the company began trading on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol UVSP.
The company’s 150th anniversary celebration extends throughout 2026 and has focused on recognizing the employees, customers and communities that have contributed to its longevity. Anniversary initiatives have included historical storytelling, customer appreciation activities and employee celebrations designed to reflect on Univest’s history while looking ahead to its future.
