Drowning Prevention

Although 100 percent preventable, drowning is the leading cause of death among children ages five and under and the second leading cause among children under fourteen. Drowning is silent and can occur in as little as two inches of water and in as quickly as 20 seconds. Since drowning cases increase during the summer months, the City of Yorba Linda urges parents and caretakers to remain vigilant when children are near water and encourages you to keep your family and friends safe by following these water safety rules:

  • Never swim alone
  • Designate a water watcher
  • Do not rely on swimming aids
  • Go feet first
  • Play safely around water
  • Educate kids on swimming safety
  • Stay away from pool drains; and
  • Always wear sunscreen!

Veterans Recognition Program

Are you, or a member of your immediate household, a Veteran? Join the City of Yorba Linda and participate in this community program by proudly displaying your veteran flag or banner. The Veteran Recognition Program is designed to honor and recognize Veterans living in Yorba Linda. The Veteran banners are 18" x 48" and are designed to be displayed on residences by affixing the banner to the eaves of the structure, patio cover, or overhang. The flags are 3' x 5' and can be displayed using a traditional flagpole or a house-mounted flagpole. Each flag/banner will state "A Yorba Linda Veteran Lives Here" and will have the logo of the military branch in which the veteran served. Banners are $25, flags are $55.
