Hope, Healing & Love

We are Saints

You're a Saint!

Did you know you are a Saint?

You are!

The Holy Spirit is within you and at work--"sanctifying" you--making you holy, polishing up your child of God-ness.

Each November we celebrate saints-- people of faith and love who have died and are with the Lord. We experience them as a Great Cloud of Witnesses--who are still with us. Their faithfulness and example inspire our walk of life. (Hebrews 12:2)

This All Saints Sunday (November 1) we enjoyed reading Psalm 96 where we are directed to Sing to the Lord! Give glory to the Lord!

This connected to our study of The Book of Confessions where the Westminster Catechisms say our purpose is to give glory to God and enjoy God forever!

Even trees get into the action--

singing with joy to God (Ps 96:12-13)

In worship we imagined trees are singing as they change and show color.

Maybe that's how we show up for God also. Change as the Spirit calls us. And show our distinctiveness, our faithfulness in the process. That's how we're saints.

My you fully become the child of God that you are in each phase of life, in each season.

In life and, yes, even in death.

The Spirit will always be in you showing you how to enjoy God.

Have a good day, saints!

Grace and peace, Pastor Sarah

Prayers and Support

Our dear friend in Christ, Jamie Logan, passed away last Friday October 23.

Jamie was strong friend of Jesus and Discovery. She inspired all of us with her resilience, faith, humor and pluck.

We know she is now in in a beautiful heavenly home filled with love and healing.

As Jamie journeys on our prayers are with her son Wes and other loved ones.

We send them prayers of healing and support.

Jamie's life will be celebrated at Discovery Presbyterian Church on

Friday November 6 at 3:30 PM

with a sandwich fellowship to follow here, too.

In life and in death, we belong to our trustworthy savior, Jesus Christ.

Prayers for all who mourn this day.

In Christ, Pastor Sarah

Stewardship 2026-2027

Lord,

Help us become

the Neighbors

you call us to be.

Week 2: Mike & Bob say:

Yay, God!

We celebrate what God is doing through Discovery Presbyterian Church

Each week we are lifting up key ministries of our church and invite everyone to deepen their commitment to Jesus Christ.

Together let's become the neighbors God calls us to be.

This past Sunday we celebrated all the ways we WORSHIP! (or say, Yay, God!)

Connecting to God and enjoying God leads us to loving and joyful service to neighbors.

Here's a link that shows a snapshot of the past year's worship (including fun actions & props) --and our celebration of All Saints.

Global Village

Study of the Book of Confessions PC(USA)

Discovery Study 2026 as of 9/23/26

The Barmen Declaration (1934) was written as an urgent statement of resistance to Nazism. In fact each one of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)’s confessions is rooted in a social crisis and attempts to answer how believers in Jesus’s grace can respond faithfully to unsettling challenges.

Each week we will study a writing from the Book of Confessions and appreciate the context of humans resisting evil and attempting to bear witness to God’s goodness.

These 10 “confessions” were written across 1,700 years and span 4 continents. May this study enrich our Everyone’s a Neighbor 2026-2027 theme—seeing ourselves as part of a great movement of God’s global, expansive love. Our beliefs don’t isolate us or make us superior. They teach us the value of praying well with others for the sake of mutual flourishing.

Study Continues

How about a deeper dive into Presbyterian beliefs by studying a tiny bit from each of the works in the Book of Confesssions?

Create good neighborhoods, visit with others around you

Do you like conflict? Have you ever risked conflict and taken a stand?

If you have, what happened? Was it complicated?

Have you ever wished others would take a stand?

When are we called to take a stand we usually need to think through: For what purpose?

Meanwhile, how are we guided by faith in taking ethical stands?

Everyone's a Neighbor

2026-2027 Theme

Everyone's a Neighbor

The 2026-2027 Theme is Everyone's a Neighbor.

The Neighbor is a powerful image in the Bible.

The Greatest Commandment is to love the Lord your God with heart and mind and spirit. A second command is like it: Love your Neighbor as your self.

In Luke 10 someone asks Jesus, who is my neighbor? Jesus tells a story of a Samaritan who tends the wounds and cares for a stranger who was found in a ditch.

48th St has been under construction for a couple of years and should re-open later this year. That makes us think afresh about our Neighbors and neighborhood.

We believe God has led us to this theme. Let us be prayerful and let this theme teach us this year.

What does it mean to be Presbyterian?

We are happy to live into Jesus' vision of oneness of all people (John 17:11, 21-23).

And we can also be proud of our distinctive Presbyterian tradition.

What are we known for?

Look at our "Seal" (Symbol)-- and be listening in church to learn more. Or, read ahead here.

And the picture below celebrates 4 moderators with our learners on June 14.
