Mississauga, ON – Visual Arts Mississauga (VAM) at Riverwood is proud to announce it has received funding from the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) to launch its Visiting Artists Program.
“I am pleased that Visual Arts Mississauga is participating,” states the Honorable Omar Alghabra, M.P. Mississauga Central. “I am also confident that the Visiting Artist Program will promote inclusion as well as wellbeing amongst seniors as well as promoting the arts among seniors.”
In partnership with Nurse Next Door Mississauga and Peel Senior Link, the Visiting Artist Program will bring specialized creative activities to housebound seniors. “COVID has highlighted an opportunity for us to bring creative activities to those persons who are not able to come to leave their homes,” said Executive Director Annis Karpenko. “Partnering with Nurse Next Door Mississauga and Peel Senior Link gives us the perfect way to launch this wonderful program.”
“Our clients always look forward to the arrival of art classes by Visual Arts Mississauga,” says Joelle Berube-Cheng Community Development Coordinator for Peel Senior Link. “The projects our seniors have produced are engaging and the instructors provide wonderful support and coaching.”
Nurse Next Door Mississauga, a unique home care company serving families within Mississauga for the last thirteen years, is so pleased and excited to support Visual Arts Mississauga’s Visiting Artists Project for 2022. Nurse Next Door’s focus is on celebrating "Happier Aging" and "Making Lives Better’", what better way than engaging in creativity.
The Visiting Artist Program will bring the creative experiences offered at VAM out into the community in a unique way and will inspire and build confidence in individuals that might not have regular access to our programs. Participants will explore a variety of creative practices including painting, drawing, photography and more! The Visiting Artist Program will encourage social participation and inclusion for older adults while promoting volunteerism.
