Grace Corcoran
Class of 2021
|
Senior Grace Corcoran is currently the Vice President of the National Honor Society and the President of Social Studies National Honor Society at North. Despite the difficulties of virtual learning, the honor societies have successfully orchestrated various volunteer initiatives throughout the year which she is very proud of. Grace is involved in Musical Theater, Choir, and French Club where she previously held leadership positions. Throughout her years at North, she has belonged to five honors societies, attained her Seal of Biliteracy for French, and has been the Social Studies Student of the Year since 2018. Grace’s favorite classes at North Hunterdon were AP U.S. History, AP World History, and AP U.S. Government and Politics. As someone who loves social studies, these classes exceeded her expectations by being both challenging and fun. The excitement in the classroom along with the support of her wonderful teachers has helped her grow tremendously as a student. Two of Grace’s favorite memories at North Hunterdon include the Milk Can games and the Homecoming dances. There was so much school spirit and comradery surrounding the two events that it made Grace’s experience so enjoyable. It was thrilling for her to join the roaring jungle stands at the Milk Can game and celebrate North’s achievements. It was even more fun to get dressed up with her friends for North’s beautiful homecoming dances (and Kona Ice!). Most of all, she was proud to belong to such a supportive school and community that has helped her grow these past four years. On any given weekend, you can find Grace working at her family’s Italian shop in Chester, NJ. She has worked there with her parents since she was fourteen years old, so it’s like a second home to her. It’s a very busy job since Grace works as a cashier, barista, waitress, caterer, and social media coordinator. However, the job is really rewarding since she gets to spend time with her family! She also babysits her younger siblings, Shane (10) and Polly (6) during the week with her sister Ella’s help. Next year, Grace will be attending Northeastern University to study Political Science and Economics.

John Deignan
Class of 2021
|
John Deignan is planning to attend The College of New Jersey next year. John recently committed to TCNJ and is very excited to attend the school. John plans to major in Anthropology, with a strong emphasis on Archaeology. After that, he will go to graduate school for Archaeology, which is something he has been very interested in for almost his entire life. At North, John is involved in the National Honor Society, History Honor Society, and Latin Honor Society. He is very proud to be involved in these groups, as he is able to continue with community service. John is also in Latin Club, where he was elected to be an officer. Although John has loved all his history classes, his two favorite classes have been AP Latin and AP Government. These two classes are difficult, and can only be taken as a senior, but they are both very rewarding. As for AP Latin, John really enjoyed translating to read through the lens of someone 2,000 years ago. His favorite thing this year is translating text written by Julius Caesar, which gives a very interesting perspective on the world at the time and what was going on then. As for AP Government, John really loved to learn about the institutions in place in our country’s government, and why they were created. Learning about the founding fathers and their intentions, as well as the things that have changed is extremely interesting to him. John’s favorite memories at North Hunterdon are all very crazy memories that he looks back at and finds very funny. One would be when he brought in a jar of mayo for April fools, with pudding in it instead of mayo. He slowly ate the pudding throughout the day, which really freaked his friends, teachers, and classmates out as the day went on. Another one of his favorite memories is from the Milk Can game, where everyone was supposed to wear white. John had been Colonel Sanders for Halloween that year, so he came to the game in the white suit that was a part of his costume. It was fun to be in the jungle wearing a white suit, as it was such an odd combination. Outside of school, John is a member of the Boy Scouts and is the Senior Patrol Leader for the troop in Union Township. This means he is the main leader for all of the scouts, who communicate with the adults and organize events. John also completed his Eagle Scout Project in April, and is now waiting to earn his Eagle Scout. John also has a part-time job at Hunterdon Hills Playhouse.

Guha Sundaram
Class of 2021
|
Senior Guha Sundaram has been playing tennis since the sixth grade. Guha’s strongest skill on the court is resiliency. He has been a varsity tennis player all four years in a singles position. This year, Guha had huge wins to upset the second seed of the Hunterdon Warren Sussex County tournament and made it to the finals, where he lost to the top seed and finished in second. As we have done for the past few years, the Math department is providing a summer packet for all incoming freshmen and North students who are enrolled in either Algebra 1A CP, Algebra 1B CP, Algebra 1 CP, Algebra 1 Advanced, Geometry CP, Geometry Advanced, Honors Geometry, Algebra 2 CP, Algebra 2 Advanced, Honors Algebra 2, PreCalculus ADV, Honors Precalculus, Calculus ADV, AP Calculus AB, and AP Calculus BC for the upcoming school year.
These packets will be distributed electronically to all current students and sending districts prior to the end of school and available for download from the Math department website.
Students are strongly encouraged to complete the packet assigned to their course. While the completed packet will not be graded, the material found within the packets is essential for students to be successful in the course. If students complete the packet early in the summer, we suggest that they review it prior to the opening of the new school year so that they will be able to discuss any problems they may have in class.

Get set for summer reading
As you make your summer plans, don’t forget about your student’s summer reading assignment. All NHHS students, including incoming freshmen, are responsible for keeping their skills sharp and reading for pleasure over the summer by completing the reading assignment.
Students can access summer reading books electronically through the media center and county library. For the best selection and availability of titles, students should get their summer reading books at the beginning of summer break.
In the fall, students will be asked about their summer reading experiences, and the books that they read. It will count as a homework assignment, rather than a quiz grade as in years past. Assessments will take place between 8/31 and 9/4. All books must be completed on or before 8/27.
Summer reading 2021
All CP and ADV students: read one free choice book and complete the Quote Selection organizer.
English 1, 2, and 3 Honors: read two free choice books and complete a Quote Selection organizer for each.
English 4 Honors : read 1984 (George Orwell) and one free-choice, non-fiction book. Complete a Quote Selection organizer for each book.
AP Language: read Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave (Frederick Douglass), Notes of a Native Son (James Baldwin), and A Raisin in the Sun (Lorraine Hansberry). Complete a Quote Selection organizer for each book.
AP Literature: The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood, Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison. Complete a Quote Selection organizer for each.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the 2020-2021 Booster club efforts. You made the year a great success! A special thank you to our amazing parent volunteers who carried on through changing circumstances to deliver the support and encouragement our student athletes and coaches needed.
This year we celebrated team and individual successes, delivered gifts and cards for Dave the Rave’s birthday, and honored our senior athletes during seniors nights and will be awarding $8,000 in scholarships during the award ceremony on June 7th. Although we were unable to recognize our trainers, coaches, and custodians for all they do to support the players in person, the Booster Club thanked them with custom masks and gift cards this year. We were excited to launch the Student-Athlete Wellness series this year, a lecture and leadership development program, which received great feedback to further enhance these services for the students. The Booster Club has already started to plan for in-person workshops for players and coaches next year! We will be kicking off a Corporate Banner Sponsorship Program in June to help support our continued efforts.
All in all, it was a year filled with the opportunity for athletes to play the sport they love! We encourage all families to join the Booster Club and get involved!
GO NORTH!
