City sponsored Neighborhood Newsletter in your mailbox soon!
Once a year the City of Tucson sponsors a neighborhood-wide paper version of the newsletter. It arrives in your mailbox. i.e. "snail mail". Thank you, COT!

BREAKING NEWS
  • September 1, Mayor and Council, in Executive Session, unanimously decided to intervene as a party on the issue and to inform TEP they do not agree with either 5A or 1B, as presented, unless ordinances are followed. The plans for these routes are incompatible with 101, 407, 409, and city general plans. All call for undergrounding utilities. Additionally, Steve Kozachik commented that the estimated cost to preserve the aesthetic integrity of Tucson, by undergrounding, would be 20 cents/month per ratepayer. This will make September 13 very interesting. Get your comments in!
  • Banner Hospital has become party to the TEP issue. They want the lines in or out of Banner on the Ring Road to be undergrounded.

LOOK CAREFULLY AT THE MAP - Only one route for overhead lines does not bisect the neighborhood - Route 1D. However, it could take part of the Banner basin and other property along the north side of the Ring Road, our southern border!
WITH UNDERGROUNDING, no poles bisect Jefferson Park. What are the chances? Getting better and better--get your opinions in.
Would you do this for Pancakes??
Check out the gateway signs off Campbell! Three separate times neighbors have battled the weeds along the Campbell access road. The regular Saturday "Adopt a Park" crew really cleaned the Edison parklet and twice folks have cleaned up at the monument signs.
After the Saturday 8/28 clean-up, they had pancakes and were done by 9am!. Thanks Laurel-Heather and Joanne for organizing! And thank you neighbors!!!! (Photos by L-H Milden)

Health and Heritage Linear Park - Update
We have been in contact with Parks and Recreation, and the latest information is that the contractor will install the irrigation and drill 23 holes for our 23 new trees. The work is expected to begin sometime between September and November.

We will be receiving 23 trees from Trees for Tucson and will be planning a tree planting party with help from our neighbors. Stay tuned for further info.
Tucson Storms-Tree or limb down?
How to remedy a storm damaged tree.
Prune wind-damaged branches that are ripped, split, or broken should be dealt with before the next storm arrives to exacerbate the break or introduce decay into the wound. Here are some great resources for tree first aid from the Arbor Day Foundation:

5G Poles making noise?
A 5G pole should not emit any sound. This past week, the new 5G pole on Justin and Sycamore and the pole on North and Fair Oaks were each making a whirring, buzzing noise audible to passersby and the residents on their front porches. The equipment should not be making any sound.

If you can hear the equipment on the pole, then please take a photo of the sign on the side of the pole. It has the location and carrier information on it. Then email or call the Ward III office and report it.
(thank you Garden District E-news and Ward III office)

City Exerting more Control of 5G with New Manual
FROM STEVE KOZACHIK'S WARD VI NEWSLETTER: "After at least 5 meetings between utility representatives and DTM staff, both in large groups and smaller one-off meetings, we finally have the utility policy manual in place. It went live on Friday. Here’s a link to the manual. You’ll find it listed at the very top of this site.
Catalytic Converter Theft - How to protect yourself
The Tucson Police Department says 102 catalytic converters were reported stolen citywide from January to mid-June, and in just the last two months that number has nearly doubled with 98 reported stolen. The catalytic converter is connected to your exhaust and helps cut back on emissions. Thieves are cutting them out for the metal.
According to state law, a scrap metal dealer purchasing catalytic converters could face a Class 1 misdemeanor. But clearly the crooks are finding a market somewhere.

While the Prius is a popular vehicle for CC theft due to the high amount of rhodium, palladium and platinum in its unit, trucks are prime targets because their higher elevation makes it easier for thieves to slip under.

The street value is not nearly worth what you will have to pay to get it repaired and that cost could range from $300 to $1200 depending on the vehicle and what they did to get the converter off.

TPD says if you are worried about your car, try to park in a well-lit and well-traveled area. You can also have your VIN number etched into the part and/or get it welded to make it harder to steal. See this site for how to protect your car - https://www.nerdwallet.com/article/loans/auto-loans/5-ways-to-foil-catalytic-converter-thieves

SIGN YOUR CATALYTIC CONVERTER: TPD held a Catalytic converter etching event in conjunction with Brake Masters and Kenny's Exhaust Works. Check with Brake Masters or watch the news for notification of future events. They will be out there. https://tucson.com/news/local/tucson-police-host-free-catalytic-converter-etching-event/article_3144fd0c-0696-11ec-9e2e-6fffb7349b72.html

OUCH, the Goatheads!
Goatheads are a noxious weed covered in multi-pronged barbs that stick in shoes, dog's feet, and bicycle tires. Track them into your house and you'll find out why it's called puncture vine!

Please take a few minutes and check your property and those nearby to see if you have goatheads. If we all do our part, we can get rid of this weed in the neighborhood! (E. Posthumus)
