A Service of Prayerful Patriotism

Might We Restore Our Faith in Democracy?

Psalm 33:13-22

9:45 a.m. – Prelude: Brass Quintet

10:00 a.m. – Worship: Sanctuary and Online

11:00 a.m. – Youth Group – Lunch'n Chat | Grace Gallery

11:15 a.m. – Congregational Conversation with David Skaggs | Sanctuary

As we mark the 250th anniversary of our nation's founding, we will gather in a spirit of honest reflection, giving thanks for our country's highest ideals, acknowledging our unfinished history with humility, and renewing our commitment to the common good

we are called to build together.

Our preacher will be former U.S. Congressman David Skaggs, a longtime member of First Congregational Church and the Chancel Choir. His sermon, Might We Restore Our Faith in Democracy?, will speak to the anxiety of the times and the hope for better days.

Following worship, and a short coffee break, all are invited to stay for a conversation led by David about the work of Keep Our Republic, a nonpartisan organization dedicated to safeguarding the integrity of our elections and strengthening American democracy. Activities for children and youth will extend throughout the morning. We hope you'll join us for this meaningful morning of worship, reflection, and thoughtful conversation.

Nursery is open at 9:45 a.m. for children ages 0-5.

Early and Elementary Schoolers will start in worship and then go with Lianna

for Sunday School. Youth will start in worship through the sermon and then go with

their leader for donuts and conversation in the Grace Gallery.

Associate Minister Search Profile

A draft of our Church Profile – the document that introduces our congregation and describes our ministries, community, and hopes for the future – is now available for your review. You are invited to read the Profile and comment. Members of the Personnel Committee and Selection Committee will present the search process and the Profile, respond to questions, and receive feedback until July 5. On July 8, the Profile will be brought to a special meeting of Church Council for approval, sent for review to the Rocky Mountain Conference Minister, and then posted on the United Church of Christ Employment Opportunities site.

IN LOVING MEMORY

In Thanksgiving for George Jones

With gratitude for a life of faithful service, we share that George Jones, a member of First Congregational Church for more than 50 years, died on June 30 in Kenya. George devoted much of his life to public service through USAID and USIS, and after suffering a stroke three years ago, he remained in Kenya, where he received devoted care. We hold his wife, Carol, and all who loved George in our prayers, giving thanks for his life and asking God's comfort and peace to surround them. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

In Thanksgiving for Bill Weiher

Our hearts are with Anne Weiher and her family following the death of her husband, Bill Weiher, on Wednesday, July 1. Bill was the father of Jessica and their late daughter, Liz. We pray that Anne, Jessica, and all who grieve may be sustained by God's abiding love, strengthened by the care of family and friends, and comforted by the hope that nothing can separate us from the love of God. May Bill's memory be a blessing. A memorial service celebrating Bill’s life will be held at First Congregational Church at a later date. Details will be shared when they are available.

We'll get to use our hands and hearts to learn about the wealth of social justice programs in Kansas City, spend time discerning what justice work we want to focus on here in Boulder County, and enjoy good fellowship together. Keep your eyes peeled for when we'll be speaking in worship about what is sure to be an incredible week. The loss can be recent or in the near or far past, an anticipated loss for those caring for a loved one, or a loss of another sort such as loss of health or home. After any significant loss there is grief and this retreat will call on God’s help and a supportive community to be more able to learn and move forward through it.
