Wellness Now: Your Oasis in a Hectic Day
Do you know about Good Riddance Day? I didn't until I saw a national news story about this year's event -- the 17th annual, no less -- in Times Square. The day is actually celebrated on Dec. 28th (note to self: put it in the calendar for next year's 18th annual!) but it's never too late to say "good riddance" to stuff you want to let go of...and what better time than the start of a new year. Ye old blank slate.

What is Good Riddance Day? Simply, it's an opportunity to cast off psychic burdens, pet peeves, bad memories, negative energy...all that jazz. Folks gather in Times Square and write what they'd like to release and post it on a "wishing wall." In past years the notes met their demise in dumpsters or shredders. This year the ritual went to new heights when a magician with a lighter incinerated the papers...poof, gone! 🔥

And what are some of the things GRD participants were thrilled to see vanish in smoke? Anger issues, regrets, bad habits, bad hair days ("Bad hair...who cares?"), caring about what others think, and "all the negativity of 2023." Ya, I can relate.

So go ahead and make a list of what you want to shout "GOOD RIDDANCE!" to as we embark upon a brand new year. I don't suggest lighting paper on fire (at least not in the house!) but a shredder, scissors or a backyard burial seem like fine ways to bid a not-so-fond adieu!
May you be well,

Shred It...and Forget It!
Since I learned of Good Riddance Day, I've been thinking about what I drag around that doesn't serve me. Here are some I'm happy to release:

Self-criticism (the vile roommate living in my head)

Regret (serves no purpose other than making me feel sad)

Stressing about what I can't control (pretty much everything except my own thoughts, actions, reactions...and my breath so breathe deeply!)

I've written those down and saying buh-bye as my trusty shredder grinds each one. See ya!
👋

P.S. Happy, healthy New Year to you and yours!

I want to say goodbye to:

(If you're wondering where Romeo is, let's say the concept of regrets, worries, bad fur days, etc, isn't his jam. In other words, we should all have the life of Romeo!) 🐕
