Travel Tip #1
VAPES
Vapes are popular today as alternatives to cigarettes, but they are a "no-no+ for checked luggage. They contain lithium-ion batteries, making them a considerable fire risk. You "may" be allowed disposable vapes in your carry-on bag, but always check with your airline.
Travel Tip #2
SUSPICIOUSLY-SHAPED ITEMS
A personal example of a mistake. A piece of ceramic pottery was purchased in foreign country. It was packed among the clothes of the checked bag for added protection. Only when TSA showed me images on the monitor was it apparent it had all the appearances of a hand gun silhouette. Piece was not confiscated after viewing, but an inconvenient delay was incurred.
Travel Tip #3
TROPICAL FRUITS
Most sealed foods are acceptable, but take care with food items like tropical fruits. Like plants, fruits could potentially introduce new diseases to the US, so TSA will confiscate.
Travel Tip #4
CLEANING PRODUCTS LIKE SPOT REMOVER SOLUTIONS
It may seem fine if sealed, but they still pose a risk to baggage handlers if they leak. Accordingly, they fall under the "hazardous chemicals" label and considered to be dangerous.
Travel Tip #5
CREMATED REMAINS IN OPAQUE CONTAINERS
Instead, seal and carry in a transparent container. TSA officers cannot open containers of cremated remains out of respect. More often than not the remains will be confiscated out of an abundance of caution.
