ECFC Night at UW Men’s Soccer

It’s not too late to get tickets! Let’s pack the stands tomorrow night (Thursday, Sept. 3) with Emerald City players and families to cheer on defending national champions UW Men’s Soccer! Tickets are $7 and kickoff time is 7:30 pm. Let’s go DAWGS!

⚽️Fall supplemental tryouts⚽️

Emerald City has a few open roster spots in many age groups so the Club is inviting prospective players to fall supplemental tryouts. Interested players will join our regular practices Sept. 7–10. If you have friends, siblings, neighbors or classmates who might be interested in playing with ECFC, please share this opportunity! Details and registration info can be found on our website. Tryouts are free, though registration is required.

The fall field-space squeeze

The fall field-space squeeze is beginning. Unfortunately, there is a huge shortage of field space in Seattle, compared with number of users needing fields. In September and October, nearly all ECFC teams will have practices scheduled at less desirable fields/ locations. In addition, there may be weeks when your player’s team has practice on a Friday, or when your coach will schedule something else in place of practice, such as a film session, fitness session or team-bonding event. We ask for your patience and understanding as we get through these tough months. If a practice does not work for your family due to location or other reason, just alert your coach that your player won’t attend. Lastly, if you have a connection to a private field we may be able to rent, for example at a private school, please contact John Hamel. Thank you.

Announcing! New uniform coordinators and ECFC Gear Swap

The Club has two new volunteer uniform coordinators, Shannon (GU11 parent) and Angela (GU14 parent). Hooray! Please direct all uniform inquiries to Shannon and Angela using our same uniform email: uniforms@emeraldcityfc.org. (If you have questions about uniform ordering, check our handy uniform FAQ.)

PLUS... Shannon has set up a new private Facebook group for swapping ECFC gear and posting lost and found items. If you have outgrown gear to pass on, need to borrow uniform items prior to your order arriving, or have lost or found something, this is the place to post about it!

Emerald City spectators are...?

The classiest spectators on any sideline anywhere. Right? Our first big weekend of games, Sept. 12–13, features 23 Emerald City games. That’s a lot of sidelines, a lot of excitement, lots of refs!

As we look to those games, we’re encouraging families to remember that our Club Code of Conduct outlines the expectation that Emerald City parents and spectators model excellent sportsmanship from the sideline. This includes not heckling or questioning referees, and refraining from offering any coaching to players.

Something to think about: Many of our players train to be youth referees starting at age 13. We want them to be treated professionally and respectfully when they’re working as refs and doing their best. Let’s do the same for all referees.

Rep your club on the sideline, during chilly-weather practices, at the grocery store. Emerald City’s hat fundraiser offers beanies and baseball caps in a range of colors and styles — and supports our Bobby Howe Scholarship Fund!
