Dear Members and Friends,

As the FIFA World Cup came to a close, July continued to be an exciting month for our German American business community, bringing together members and friends through a variety of networking opportunities.

We celebrated the 250th Anniversary of the United States with several special events, including a Fourth of July fireworks viewing at our office at 120 Wall Street with our network of J-1 interns, receptions aboard the Gorch Fock in New York and Boston as part of Sail250, and a networking reception with the German Consulate General New York, which also marked our final event at the German House of Soccer.

Later in the month, we welcomed our German American business community once again at our Young Professionals Summer Networking event on Governors Island and our Summer Member Networking Reception, generously hosted by our member NORD/LB.

Looking ahead, applications are now open for the Newcomer of the Year Award 2026. The three finalists will have the opportunity to present their companies and pitch live at our Fall Gala Dinner & Newcomer of the Year Award on November 12th, 2026 at Manhatta.

German American Defense & Dual-Use Roundtable

At the end of June, the Boston Chapter of the German American Chamber of Commerce, Inc., together with the German Consulate General Boston and the MIT-Germany Program at the MIT Center for International Studies (CIS), had the pleasure of hosting our first German American Defense & Dual-Use Roundtable in Boston.

The event brought together senior leaders from industry, government, academia, and the innovation ecosystem to discuss the evolving transatlantic defense and dual-use landscape. Participants exchanged perspectives on strengthening German American cooperation, enhancing supply chain resilience, and advancing emerging technologies with dual-use applications.

We were honored to open the program with insights from Gene Keselman, Executive Director of MIT Mission Innovation X, followed by remarks from Zenobia Moochhala, Undersecretary of Business Strategy at the Massachusetts Executive Office of Economic Development (EOED), and Philipp Pohle, Economic Counselor for Defense at the Embassy of Germany in Washington, D.C. Together, they highlighted the growing role of Massachusetts and Germany as leading hubs for innovation, advanced manufacturing, and defense-related technologies, as well as the importance of strengthening transatlantic collaboration in these critical sectors.

The discussion fostered an open exchange of ideas and created valuable opportunities to strengthen connections across the German American defense, aerospace, technology, and dual-use communities.

A sincere thank you to all our speakers, participants, and partners for making this event such a success - especially Consul General Dr. Sonja Kreibich of the German Consulate General Boston and Justin Leahey of the MIT-Germany Program. We look forward to continuing this important dialogue and welcoming you to future events in Boston.

GITEX AI Europe

The GACC New York was pleased to exhibit at GITEX AI Europe in Berlin, engaging with founders, investors, corporates, and ecosystem partners to explore new transatlantic opportunities in innovation and technology.

A key highlight was our session “Navigating the U.S. Startup Ecosystem” presented by Michael Primbs, who shared insights from more than a decade of the STEP USA Startup Program and GACC New York’s experience supporting more than 600 German startups in their U.S. expansion.

Throughout the event, one message stood out clearly: The United States remains one of the world’s most dynamic and competitive startup markets, offering significant opportunities for international founders, investors, and technology companies.

Thank you to everyone who visited our booth and contributed to these valuable conversations. We look forward to continuing the dialogue and strengthening transatlantic connections between Germany and the United States.

Club J-1 Independence Day Celebration & Fireworks Viewing

On the 4th of July, we were excited to welcome our network of J-1 interns to the GACC NY office at 120 Wall Street for a special evening overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge and East River as we celebrated the 250th anniversary of the United States and watched the 4th of July fireworks together.

The view of the fireworks was made even more special by the presence of the German sail training ship Gorch Fock, which had sailed from Germany to participate in the Sail250 and was docked across the East River in Brooklyn.

It was wonderful to bring together J-1 interns from companies across New York to celebrate this historic milestone.

A special thank you to Sandy Jones, the GACC NY’s Responsible Officer for the J-1 Exchange Visitor Visa Program, for making this event possible.

Gorch Fock

It was an honor to attend two memorable receptions aboard the Gorch Fock - first in New York City and then in Boston - hosted by the German Consulates General in New York and Boston.

As part of the Sail250 celebrations commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States, the Gorch Fock called at New York City and Boston, two of the select U.S. ports chosen to welcome the international fleet of tall ships. The iconic training ship of the German Navy provided a truly fitting backdrop to celebrate the enduring friendship and partnership between Germany and the United States.

Both events brought together leaders from government, business, academia, and the broader German American community, providing an excellent opportunity to reconnect with longstanding partners, establish new relationships, and reaffirm the strength of the transatlantic partnership.

A sincere thank you to the German Consulates General in New York and Boston for their hospitality and for organizing two exceptional receptions aboard the Gorch Fock. We look forward to continuing to strengthen the economic ties that unite our two countries and their business communities.

The afternoon opened with a celebratory musical performance of the American National Anthem by Greginald Spencer and the German National Anthem by Melina Bruhn, setting the tone for an afternoon of networking dedicated to the longstanding relationship between Germany and the United States.

This event also marked our final GACC NY event at the German House of Soccer. A sincere thank you to the DFB for creating such a welcoming space in New York for the German American community during this summer’s world cup.
