In past newsletters we have discussed Blue Zones, what they are and how we can learn from them.
In a handful of places around the world—known as the Blue Zones—people live longer, healthier, and more fulfilling lives. What’s surprising isn’t just their longevity, but how they live: with purpose, connection, and simple daily habits that compound over time.
The 7th Blue Zone principle, Right Tribe, is about building strong social circles with people who support positive, healthy behaviors.
We often think of healthy living as a matter of personal discipline: eating better, exercising more, managing stress, and making good choices. But Blue Zone research points to another powerful influence: the people we surround ourselves with.
Habits can be contagious. When the people around us are active, optimistic, engaged, and supportive, those behaviors tend to rub off. The same is true in our professional lives. Surround yourself with people who encourage growth, exchange ideas, challenge you constructively, and celebrate your progress, and you’re more likely to keep moving forward.
Your “tribe” doesn’t have to be large. A handful of meaningful relationships can provide encouragement, accountability, perspective, and a sense of belonging.
Take a look at the people you spend the most time with. Do they energize you or drain you? Encourage you or discourage you? Help you grow or keep you standing still?
Choosing your tribe isn’t about surrounding yourself with people who always agree with you. It’s about building relationships with people who bring out the best in you—and being that kind of person for them in return.
The right people don’t just make the journey more enjoyable. They can help change where the journey takes you.
