A Message from the Qualicum Beach
Chamber of Commerce Executive:
Please Join us in Welcoming
The Arrowsmith Community Justice Society
to the Chamber of Commerce!
| |
|
Please join us in welcoming the Arrowsmith Community Justice Society to the ever-growing roster of Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce Members! The The ACJS has their office just outside of Parksville but works withing the communities of Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Region District of Nanaimo Areas E, F, G & H.
Here is a photo of the 100 Men Who Give a Damn organization donating $10,400 (way to go guys!) to the Alyssa Noble of the ACJS. We caught up to Alyssa and she was able to explain what function the ACJS performs for our community. She had this to say:
“Arrowsmith Community Justice Society is a local non-profit organization who provides a restorative justice program to the community. Restorative justice is an alternative to going through the traditional court system. When a crime is committed in our community, whether it be a minor offence or a first-time offence, it may be determined the incident is better suited to go through our program. We work with both the offender and the victim individually with the end goal of having everyone sit down together in what we call a community conference. During this conference we facilitate dialogue between the parties so they can share their perspectives, and determine what needs to be done to repair the harm.”

Building on from the 2020 Conceptual Plan, the Town is now developing a Detailed Park Plan for Saahtlam Park (formerly known as St. Andrews Waterfront Park).
While the Conceptual Park Plan provided a preliminary plan with a general overview of the proposed park design, this Detailed Park Plan will now provide a more comprehensive and detailed roadmap for the park project, with specific information about the site, facilities, amenities, landscaping, and programming.
Lanarc Consultants have been hired to facilitate this process and conduct public input to help inform the decision-making process. Public engagement opportunities are anticipated to commence in September 2023.

The $289,294 in funding from BCAAP will help cover the $340,346 cost of replacement for the fuel storage system and dispensing unit to ensure safer operations and expanding storage capacity to meet the growing needs of the aviation community.

Qualicum Beach Time Capsule:
Snow White Motel
| |
The Snow White Motel and Cottages were built in 1945, for a Mr. and Mrs. Laver. Its name signified that it had white sheets. From 1970 to 1975 it was owned by Jim and Irene Mitchell, and they emphasized the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs theme. There were were seven units which they named after each of the dwarfs, and four cottages named Snow White, Prince Charming, Bambi and Thumper. The last owners were Jim and Jutta Storey. The buildings were sold in 1990 and replaced by a condominium. Pictured here is Snow White Motel, c. 1990.
