Breaking Ground for Angel and his Family

The construction team is in full swing. In August Nevada County Habitat held a Groundbreaking Ceremony to celebrate construction of the home for Angel Garcia and his three children. Angel and his sons show up at the job site every week to help with building their future home.

"Working alongside Angel and his two sons has been awesome! Not only is it great to watch them become more excited as their new home takes shape, they are also really hard workers; we couldn't do it without them," said Ian Nansen, Construction Program Coordinator for Nevada County Habitat.

For Angel, the project is all about his family. β€œI want to have a stable place to call home for my kids,” says Angel. That’s what we are working toward.” (Pictured above L to R: Ann Davis, Garcia family, and Michelle and John McDaniel, Garcia family Homeowner Partners)

Meet the New ReStore Donations Driver

Nolan Frame is a new face at the ReStore. He’s started with ReStore this summer, and his work primarily involves driving the ReStore truck around the county to pick up donations. Prior to working at the ReStore, Nolan worked in construction for over 20 years. This background was great preparation for understanding the materials, appliances and other goods that come to the ReStore.

When not working at the ReStore, Nolan likes to work on cars. Autobody work is his specialty, and he has a special restoration project in process.

When asked how he likes working at the ReStore, Nolan was quick to say, β€œI love it! It’s a real team – everyone pulls together.”

The ReStore is a key component of Nevada County Habitat. Remember – Nevada County Habitat Homeowners get a 20% discount on purchases at the ReStore. Just ask for the discount at checkout.

Thinking About Making an Improvement On Your Property?

β€Š

Here’s a quick quiz for you! When thinking about making an improvement on your property, what should you do before you start?

a.    Check to make sure that what you have in mind is in compliance with City and County Code

b.   Contact Nevada County Habitat to make sure your plan complies with your agreements with Habitat.

The right answer? Both! Many outdoor building projects are subject to City and County ordinances and restrictions. Check to see that what you have in mind is allowed by Grass Valley, or by Nevada County.

In addition, Habitat neighborhoods have Homeowner Agreements or CC&Rs (Conditions, Covenants and Restrictions) that govern what is allowed for Habitat homes. So, check with the Habitat office before getting started.

Homeowner Insurance

When it comes to Homeowner Insurance, it pays to shop around. The Homeowner Support Committee has prepared a Homeowner Insurance guide just for Nevada County Habitat Homeowners. You can find it here.
