Presented by The Centre for Redefining Alternative Civic Engagement for Africa (RACE), the Transnational Justice Project, and the Centre for Reparations Research, the Urban People’s Reparatory Justice convening will take place at the Olympia Gallery in Kingston, bringing together artists, scholars, activists, community members, survivors, and legal thinkers to examine the enduring legacies of transatlantic slavery and colonialism and their continuing impact on Black life in Jamaica’s urban landscape.

Centred on Kingston and its surrounding communities as sites of historical memory, structural inequality, and creative resistance, the convening will examine how histories of dispossession and exploitation continue to shape contemporary urban life and what reparatory justice might mean for communities confronting these enduring harms.
