New York State Update
The Janssen/Johnson & Johnson vaccine adds to the supply in New York, and they began using it at Yankee Stadium last week. NYS is expanding its vaccine distribution by opening three new short-term mass vaccination sites upstate. The sites will be located at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY (Dutchess County); SUNY Genesee in Batavia, NY (Genesee County); and Jamestown Community College in Olean, NY (Cattaraugus County). These sites opened on March 5 and aim to distribute the vaccine in areas of the StateState that need additional options for residents. Vaccinating as many New Yorkers as possible is vital to protecting public health and ultimately defeating the virus, and these sites take us further along in this effort.

There are over 12 million New Yorkers eligible for the vaccines, so while the Janssen/Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine ramps up efforts, Governor Cuomo asks New Yorkers to be patient as we wait for more supply from the federal government. It's crucial that we keep doing what we know stops the spread of the virus. COVID is still a threat to our communities. That means each of us needs to wear a mask, social distance, and wash our hands. We'll beat this thing—it's only a matter of time and diligence.

NYS mass vaccination sites are doing outstanding work administering the vaccine to eligible New Yorkers. Over the weekend, the Javits Center vaccination site administered 13,431 doses over 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday and 13,713 doses over 24 hours on Sunday and Monday—the best performance of anyone vaccination site in the nation. Thanks to increasing vaccine supply from the federal government, we can continue to ramp up New York's distribution efforts. To that end, they will open 10 new mass vaccination sites in the coming weeks to continue to get shots in arms and to bring us closer to vaccines for all. The new sites will be established in New York City, Long Island, Hudson Valley, Capital Region, Southern Tier, Mohawk Valley, and Western New York. The more people we vaccinate, the more we can continue our progress to keep the infection rate down and reopen our economy and defeat COVID once and for all.

The vaccine is the weapon that will win the war against COVID, and NYS is marching forward to expand access to the vaccines. Beginning this past Wednesday, all New Yorkers 60 years of age and older are eligible to receive the vaccine. Beginning March 17, eligibility will expand again, allowing public-facing essential workers from governmental and nonprofit entities to get the vaccine. This expansion also includes public-facing essential building services workers. New Yorkers will be able to make appointments through the Am I Eligible tool or by calling the NYS Vaccine Hotline at 1-833-NYS-4-VAX (1-833-697-4829). The fight against the COVID virus continues on all fronts, and by vaccinating as many New Yorkers as possible, we come closer to defeating the virus and getting back to the things we love.

New Yorkers who are 60 and up can schedule an appointment. As vaccination efforts continue, we cannot afford to loosen up our vigilance against this virus. New Yorkers should remain careful and patient as we stay laser-focused on getting more shots in arms.

As of Wednesday this morning, 19.9 percent of New Yorkers have completed at least one vaccine dose. 143,592 total doses have been administered. To date, New York administered 5,941,072 total doses, with 9.8 percent of New Yorkers completing their vaccine series. See data by region and county on the State's Vaccine Tracker: ny.gov/vaccinetracker.

The StateState is adjusting travel restrictions. Domestic travelers to New York State who have been vaccinated no longer have to quarantine or test out within 90 days of their full vaccination. International travelers still must adhere to CDC quarantine guidelines.

The NY Forward Rapid Testing program is helping us fast-track our economy's reopening. Testing is one of the key components of a successful reopening, and this public-private partnership provides New Yorkers with convenient access to low-cost COVID-19 rapid tests. Tests are available to New Yorkers for no more than $30. Learn more and find a testing site.

Appointments are still available during overnight hours for eligible Bronx residents at Yankee Stadium. In a pilot program, Yankee Stadium will be administering the Janssen/Johnson & Johnson vaccine during overnight hours at the site. If you are an eligible Bronx resident, schedule an appointment.

Starting March 19, restaurants outside of New York City can expand indoor dining capacity. The data has shown that restaurants can operate safely and in accordance with strict protocols at 75 percent capacity. New York City restaurant capacity will remain at 35 percent capacity.

Indoor dining in New York City can expand to 50 percent capacity beginning on March 19. Currently, New York City and New Jersey restaurants are operating at 35 percent capacity. This decision is made in partnership with Governor Murphy and will coincide with New Jersey expanding indoor dining to 50 percent on March 19. Other New York restaurants outside of New York City will expand to 75 percent capacity beginning March 19.

More than 40,000 vaccine doses have been administered in New York houses of worship. More than 22,500 first doses and more than 18,000-second doses have been administered at 48 pop-up sites established in houses of worship. Partnering with houses of worship builds on New York's efforts to bring the vaccine to underserved communities across the StateState. Governor Cuomo calls on more religious leaders to partner with New York to establish more pop-up sites. Interested houses of worship can contact the StateState here.

Effective March 17, most vaccination sites will be able to vaccinate any eligible New Yorker, no matter the category. Any vaccine provider will be able to vaccinate any eligible New Yorker, excluding pharmacies, which will focus on individuals over the age of 60 and teachers, in line with federal policy. Pharmacies may begin vaccinating individuals over the age of 60 and teachers starting tomorrow, March 10.

The MTA released a new digital feature to help locate vaccine sites. The MTA's Live Subway Map can now be used to find vaccination sites in New York City. The map includes links with each location that directs users to the appropriate scheduling website. If the site takes appointments over the phone, the map provides the phone number.

On Tuesday, Governor Cuomo signed the COVID-19 Emergency Protect Our Small Businesses Act of 2021. This act establishes eviction and foreclosure protections for small businesses. These new protections build on moratoriums on commercial evictions and foreclosures established by Executive Order that has given New York businesses peace of mind since COVID first arrived in New York over a year ago. The legislation will initially apply to small businesses with under 50 employees that demonstrate financial hardship and small businesses with 10 or fewer units.

As of yesterday, New York has conducted over 40 million COVID tests. In just five days, New York has conducted an additional one million COVID tests. Getting tested for COVID regularly is a great way to ensure your health and the health of those around you. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID or believe you may have been exposed to the virus, get tested. Find a testing site near you. You can also call 1-888-364-3065 to make a free appointment at a New York State-run testing site.
