We'd like to thank Cindy Brown, Director of Air Service & Land Development at the Calgary Airport Authority – YYC, for her presentation at this past Wednesday WISC and Wine event. We learned about the history and evolution of the Calgary airport. She discussed her own career journey – the challenges and wins, what she learned, how she reacted, those who supported her on the path in aviation where women rarely have a seat at the table.

Cindy Brown talked about the struggles that she and those who work at YYC had and currently face while managing the pandemic. She discussed how the dedicated team worked to keep YYC running and safe for travelers through COVID-19, are exhausted - mentally and physically, which no one anticipated, who now have some bitterness towards those who are beginning to return - feeling mentally and physically rejuvenated. A very unforeseen and unique conflict that Cindy and the Management of the YYC must now navigate in their commitment and support for mental health.

We also learned that globally, it will be at least 5-years before there is a real recovery of the airline industry. How all the airlines, airport authorities, and the supporting industries will fair, remains an unknown.
