It's Happening

Winter Is (Finally) Coming!

We know a lot of folks were waiting to see some real signs of winter before picking up their memberships this season—and honestly, we don’t blame you. Early Bird has come and gone, but the forecast is finally starting to look promising. Cooler temps are on the way, and with a bit of luck, some fresh snow to go with it.

For anyone still on the fence, we want to remind you that we’ve kept our membership pricing reasonable again this year. We never want cost to be the hurdle that keeps people from enjoying the trails, the programs, or the great community we have at Caledonia.

And believe me—no one wants winter more than our grooming team. Peter has already been out there rolling, watching the weather like a hawk, and doing everything he can to get things ready. As soon as we have enough snow, we will be working hard to get a skiable loop open and welcome everyone back onto the trails.

If you haven’t grabbed your membership yet, now’s the time. We’re getting close, the energy is building, and we can’t wait to see our community out on their skis for what we hope will be an amazing season.

See you on the snow soon!

Grooming Reports are being Updated

As we get closer to full winter conditions, we want to make sure everyone is prepared before heading out for their visit. Our grooming team has been working incredibly hard—not only to get the trails ready, but also to keep our community informed every step of the way.

With new snowfall arriving and our man-made snow being pushed out and shaped, conditions can change quickly. Knowing what is open, what is ready, and what is still in progress will help you plan a safe and enjoyable outing.

Please make a habit of checking the Grooming Report daily before you come to the club. This is the best place to find up-to-date information on which trails are groomed, rolled, track-set, or still under preparation.

Knowing the conditions in advance keeps everyone happy and ensures you get the best experience possible on the trails. Thanks for staying connected—and a big shout-out to Peter, Steve and the grooming team for all their hard work behind the scenes!

Kick Off the Holiday Season at the Caledonia Nordic Santa Ski!

Our favorite festive tradition is back! Join us Sunday, December 7 from 3:30–5:30 PM for an afternoon of holiday cheer at the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club.

Entry is by donation to the Prince George Food Bank—let’s help spread warmth beyond the trails this season.

  • Cozy up by the bonfire with hot chocolate and s’mores.
  • Don’t forget your letters for Santa—we’ll make sure they get to the right place!
  • Try our new DIY ornament craft station and take home a little piece of Christmas magic.

News and Updates from our

New Board of Directors

There is a lot happening at Caledonia Nordic, and we are pleased to share several important updates from recent Board activities. Thank you to all members, volunteers, and partners who continue to help move our club forward.

Trails Committee Update

The Board is pleased to welcome Gillian Recknell and Patrick Turner to the Trails Committee. Their experience and passion for our trail network will be a great addition to the group.

A heartfelt thank-you goes to Mark Earle for his many years of dedicated service, and to all existing committee members whose insight and advice continue to guide our trail planning and management.

Hickory Wing West – Winter Grooming Notice

Please note that Hickory Wing West will not be groomed this winter.

This segment crosses private property, and we cannot legally maintain or groom the trail without proper permissions.

Our goal is to restore this connection as soon as possible in a responsible and respectful way. Until then, Up the Creek will be a Two Way trail to allow access to Hickory Wing and the Greenway.

Day-Use Remote Payment Coming Soon

We are excited to share that remote payment for day passes will soon be available. Keep an eye out for new QR codes posted around the site for easy, on-the-spot access.

A friendly reminder: if you don’t have a membership, please make sure to purchase a day pass—and encourage friends, family, and visiting guests to do the same. These contributions directly support trail maintenance, grooming, and club operations.

Naming the New 2 km Dog Loop

We are thrilled to welcome trail name suggestions for the new 2 km dog loop located on the Terus property.

Send your ideas to tracksandtrails@caledonianordic.com. The Trails Committee will review all submissions, create a shortlist, and the Board will make the final selection. We look forward to announcing the new name later this season.

Thank You to Our Olympic Trials Volunteers

A massive thank-you to the volunteers who contributed countless hours preparing for the Olympic Trials, particularly in snowmaking. Your hard work in challenging conditions—often late at night or before most of us are awake—benefits every member of our club. We deeply appreciate your dedication and effort.

Bylaws Now in Force

We have received a certified copy of our updated bylaws from BC Registries, which means they are now officially in effect. The bylaws will be posted on our website shortly for all members to review.

Member Input on New Policies

With our bylaws now active, members are invited to submit suggestions for policies that will support their implementation. Areas of interest include:

  • Privacy
  • Conflict of interest
  • Finance
  • Member code of conduct
  • Member engagement and communication
  • Strategic planning
  • Electronic voting

Please send your suggestions to secretary@caledonianordic.com. Your input helps shape the continued growth and governance of our club.

Vice President Appointment

Under section 4.5.2 of the new bylaws, the Board has appointed Vonda Hofferd as Vice President. The Board determined that filling this role is important to support the President and to ensure smooth management of club business and decision-making.

2028 Para Biathlon World Championships

We are excited to share that Caledonia Nordic has been invited to put our name forward to be considered as host for the 2028 Para Biathlon World Championships, tentatively scheduled for March 2028. After consulting with key volunteers, the Board submitted our interest. We will keep members updated as decisions and opportunities unfold.
