As we approach our 3 year anniversary we decided to take a step back to take a look at just how much we've achieved in such a short time. And it's been A LOT!

I couldn't be more grateful to our team of partners: The US Department of Energy, Kiewit, CH-IV International, and Siemens Energy. Your expertise, knowledge, support and guidance have been invaluable in getting us to this point.

We're also grateful for the level of community support we've received. Over the last 18 months alone we've presented to nearly 60 organizations, groups and stakeholders to talk about our project. And while our mission and values have never wavered, the discussion has definitely shifted.

While we remain laser focused on energy addition and fuel flexibility, our heavy water/deuterium production is gaining interest as supply chain security of critical materials is becoming a national hot topic.

So why are we talking about heavy water?

Heavy water/deuterium is used in a number of US industrial sectors including semiconductors, fiber-optic cables, microchips, pharmaceuticals, OLED displays, fusion energy and much more.

Indeed, DOE’s new Fusion Science & Technology Roadmap makes one thing clear: fusion is no longer theoretical—it’s an industrial strategy. Deuterium is a foundational input for fusion energy, serving as one half of the deuterium‑tritium fuel cycle that underpins nearly all near-term commercial fusion designs. Abundance ≠ Accessible!!!

While often overlooked due to its natural abundance, establishing reliable, economical, industrial-scale deuterium processing and supply chains is essential to enabling secure, domestic fusion deployment at scale as well as ensuring reliable supplies for the increasing needs in electronics and pharmaceuticals.

Unfortunately, there is a distinct lack of domestically produced deuterium. Heavy water/deuterium is produced only overseas, primarily in China, Iran, India, and Russia. This places the US in a potentially dangerous position when it comes to supply chain security for critical industries. Here at Aternium we are prepared and able to solve the deuterium supply chain issue for the US while simultaneously providing future fuel flexibility. We are the only company solving this important strategic gap for the United States. And we're ready to meet the challenge!

Viewpoint: Redefining energy with heavy water and hydrogen

Solving problems is relatively easy; identifying the right problem to solve is where the true challenge lies. For decades, the clean hydrogen industry has pursued the wrong objectives—chasing commercial adoption targets without fully considering the intertwined realities of economics, science, and community impact. Aternium changes the paradigm. We offer a model capable of redefining Delaware’s economic landscape through the production of clean, low-cost hydrogen. READ MORE...

H2 Liftoff Podcast: Tim LaValle talks with Andrew Cottone

Podcast host Tim Lavalle sits down with Andrew Cottone to discuss the company’s innovative, patent-pending business model that combines clean hydrogen production with deuterium (heavy water) isolation to significantly lower the levelized cost of hydrogen. Andrew shares his entrepreneurial journey and explains how Aternium is tackling a critical U.S. supply chain vulnerability by establishing domestic deuterium production, highlighting Aternium’s pre-FEED study with Kiewit, their revolutionary integration of Honeywell’s AI-driven digital twin technology, and sourcing electricity produced by nuclear power.
