Communities

“For almost 50 years, WDC has been working with communities to creatively meet Rhode Island’s diverse affordable housing needs. Today’s funding awards are key milestones in building a new community with homes for 52 current public housing residents and 33 new neighbors in South Kingstown; 30 homes for people at risk of homelessness in West Warwick; and investment to ensure that 47 units will provide stable homes for another generation of families in the West End of Providence. We’re grateful to our partners at the Executive Office of Housing, RI Housing, our development teams, local advocates, elected officials, and community organizations whose collaboration and commitment have made this work possible.”

183 Washington Street - West Warwick

30 New Units of Permanent Supportive Housing

The former site of Ocean State Furniture in West Warwick’s Arctic Village will be transformed from a vacant storefront into 30 new units of permanent supportive housing. This project is the result of a community-led partnership with the West Warwick Health Equity Zone and the Town of West Warwick, designed to address the needs of people experiencing homelessness. Residents will benefit from stable housing paired with on-site supportive services.

Champagne Heights - South Kingstown

52 replacement units +

33 new affordable homes

WDC has partnered with the South Kingstown Housing Authority to replace aged public housing at the existing Champagne Heights and Fournier Estate communities with 52 new units for current public housing residents. An additional 33 units will serve families earning up to 80% of Area Median Income, expanding affordable housing options in South Kingstown.

West End III - Providence

47 preserved units across 19 buildings

West End III in Providence received a final allocation of funding to support critical investments in 47 units of existing affordable housing spread across 19 buildings in the West End neighborhood. These community assets have provided stable homes for more than 30 years. This investment will fund essential maintenance and repairs, ensuring West End III can continue serving families for another generation.
