CHFA’s Direct Effect Awards recognize and support Colorado nonprofits whose missions align with CHFA’s work to strengthen Colorado by investing in affordable housing and community development. Since 2021, CHFA has provided more than $6.1 million in Direct Effect Awards to support the work of more than 425 mission-aligned Colorado nonprofit organizations.


The application window for the second and final round of 2024 Direct Effect Awards opened August 19th and will close on September 13th at 11:59pm MT. Awardees will be notified in early December. In celebration of CHFA’s 50th anniversary, up to five organizations may receive $50,000 Direct Effect Awards. To learn more, please visit chfainfo.com/directeffect.

upcoming homebuyer event

CHFA is hosting a free homebuyer event on Saturday, September 21st, from 10:00am to Noon at CrossPurpose in Denver. The event is part of CHFA’s Own Your Tomorrow initiative to increase Black and African American homeownership in Colorado. This in-person event will feature industry experts, and attendees can learn how homeownership creates generational wealth, how to build a homebuying team, and how to access down payment assistance programs.

The deadline to transfer 2024 Private Activity Bonds (PAB) to CHFA is September 15th. CHFA utilizes Private Activity Bonds to finance affordable multifamily developments and first-time homebuyer programs across Colorado. If possible, please have all documents for the assignment executed and to CHFA by Thursday, September 12th, so the final allocation numbers can be filed with the State. Please reach out to Denver Maw, Director of Finance, with questions at dmaw@chfainfo.com.

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, CHFA invited CHFA homeowners to share how homeownership has shaped or influenced their life story along with an accompanying photo. The winners will receive a free home mortgage payment or $1,000 applied toward their CHFA mortgage, whichever is greater. After reviewing more than 145 entries, five winners were selected. Their stories and photos are featured on CHFA’s website.

CHFA’s David W. Herlinger Golf Tournament raised $150,000 for NEWSED Community Development Corporation (NEWSED) on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. Headquartered in Denver, NEWSED promotes community development to underserved populations in Colorado by providing navigation for housing services, nurturing small businesses, and promoting asset creation. NEWSED successfully creates social and financial stability in the lives of families and individuals with low to moderate incomes.


CHFA’s annual golf tournament raises proceeds to benefit a local nonprofit whose work coincides with CHFA’s mission of affordable housing and community development and is named in memory of CHFA’s former Executive Director, David W. Herlinger.
