Message from Mayor Kapszukiewicz

I was thrilled yesterday to announce two programs launched this week to help the families of homeless Toledo Public Schools students.
I want to thank TPS, the Toledo Lucas County Homelessness Board, and Lutheran Social Services of Northwestern Ohio for joining the city in this partnership.
Toledo Public Schools has approximately 23,000 students. Of those, about 1,700 are identified as homeless.
Up to $2 million of Emergency Solutions Grant CARES Act funding will be used to help approximately 300 families with rent payments for up to three months, rent deposits, and utility payments.
A second program will use $100,000 provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, HOME Investment Partnership funding, to provide 12 months of rental assistance, rent security deposits, utility payments, and utility security deposits to an additional 10 homeless TPS families. Importantly, a case worker will work with those 10 families on the benefits of a financial opportunity center, and provide resources such as budgeting, credit repair, job searches, and educational opportunities.
Toledo is a compassionate city that seeks to help those in need, and the goal of this collaboration is just that. We want to decrease the number of TPS families who are in shelters while providing housing stability and important wrap-around services.

YWCA's 21 Day Racial Equity and Social Justice Challenge
|
|
The 21 day racial equity and social justice challenge is a free tool designed to create dedicated time and space to build more effective social justice habits, particularly those dealing with issues of race, power, privilege, and leadership.
You will be presented with challenges such as reading an article, listening to a podcast, reflecting on personal experience and more. Participation in an activity like this helps us to discover how racial injustice and social injustice impact our community, to connect with one another, and to identify ways to dismantle racism and other forms of discrimination. This is an exciting opportunity to dive deep into racial equity and social justice. We hope you will join us on this journey and we can’t wait to get started!
Register for the challenge today at this link.
