From the Pastor:
My Sweet Home Family, “I thank my God upon every
remembrance of you. Always in every prayer of mine for you all
making requests with joy. For your fellowship in the gospel from the
first day until now.” Philippians 3:3-5.
When I consider that this month we will be celebrating SEVENTEEN YEARS as Pastor and People, I can do nothing but THANK GOD! God has placed us here, together; graced us with skills, gifts, talents, abilities, and favor; and embraced us with His love and care as we continue our work to bring growth to His Kingdom and glory to His name!
This month, we will be celebrating our Annual Youth Day (6/8), as well as my 17th Pastoral Anniversary. Additionally, for the second year, we will be a site for the Northwest Indiana Summer Learning Labs (6/25 – 7/23). I am SO EXCITED about what God is doing in, with, to, through, and for our ministry. I, like the Apostle Paul can say as he did in Philippians 3:6, “Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

| | Sis. Arlessie's favorite scripture is Philippians 4:6, because it lets her know that the Lord has heard her through prayers and petitions, and that she is not to worry about anything. She humbly stated, “I tell Him of my needs, and I thank Him for what He has already done for me.” Arlessie expressed her love for the sweet people here at Sweet Home. To encourage readers, she reminds us to, “Wait on the Lord when your concerns and petitions are not always answered. Be persistent! You will get an answer, and sometimes what you think you want, you don’t need. It has worked for me for almost 89 years. God is good... Yes, He is!" PRAISE GOD, Sis. Arlessie! We are honored to be in your presence, and we agree.... GOD IS GOOD! | | |
Member Spotlight:
Sis. Arlessie Gilliam-McNeil
Our member spotlight for the month of June is Sis. Arlessie Gilliam-McNeil! Sis. Arlessie makes her way to just about every event the church has, whether it's at The Home, or a short distance away! Her smiling face and warm embrace is welcomed every time she is around! Sis. Arlessie retired 30 years ago. She has two beautiful daughters, who are married; and she also has 4 grandchildren and one great grandchild. She is a 16-year breast cancer survivor, and though she currently still struggles as an asthmatic, she praises God for healing. “That's the reason I can testify, because it's a good day, because even though I got up feeling a little strange; I'm OK now."
When asked about how she handles storms, she said “God strengthens you when storm comes in your life. I am a senior citizen, and I learned a long time ago that if I treat people right, the Lord will always send somebody that you weren't expecting to see about you. When trials come, I talk to the Master to see what He wants me to do. I've been talking to the Lord for a long time, and at my age, He hasn't failed me yet. Sometimes I have to wait for an answer, but as I wait, He comforts me.”

Ministry Highlight
The Ministry Highlight for the month of June is the Ministry of our Pastor, Marlon C. Mack, Sr. Last month, our Pastor participated in the graduation ceremony where he received his Master of Ministry Degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH. We thank
God for his commitment to equipping himself to be the under-shepherd that God has created, called, and commissioned him to be for such a time as this!
Congratulations Pastor Marlon C. Mack, Sr. MMin. We look forward to praying, participating, and partnering with you in the work that God has assigned to our congregation!

"Hear vs. Heed"
Hearing is automatic for anyone whose ears are functioning properly. It doesn’t take any effort to hear something. Heeding is different. Heeding is the act of listening with the intent to also obey the command you have heard. Are you hearing God’s word or heeding It? That’s a personal question for each individual to ask themselves, without worrying about anyone else’s answer. Jesus tells us in Luke 8:18, to be careful with how we listen and process God’s word. He gave a warning to us that those who hear on the surface with no understanding or application of it will eventually lose what they seem to have, while those who truly embrace the message will receive more understanding and grace. God has afforded us many different tools and ways to study the Bible, which is great because not everyone receives and retains information the same way. Remember that your individual relationship with God is much more important than you looking smart to other people. You may not be able to remember and quote every scripture, but if your intentions are pure and you are trying your best to apply God’s word to your daily life for the right reasons, He will give you clarity, and place you with the right people to help further your understanding. Do what you need to do to truly understand and take heed to His word.
