"Hotel owners are on the front lines of America’s economy – and every day this shutdown continues, it puts more small businesses and jobs at risk," said AAHOA Chairman Kamalesh (KP) Patel.

According to reporting by The Washington Post and The Guardian, national Indian American organizations, members of Congress, and local residents are demanding that Chandler Langevin, a Palm Bay, FL, city council member, step down following his racist remarks targeting Indian people living in the U.S. Both the Post and The Guardian detailed former AAHOA Chairman Bharat Patel's (2023-24) attendance at a council meeting on Oct. 2, where he rebuked Langevin's remarks as echoing "some of history's darkest rhetoric" that have the potential to spark further violence.

IN THE MARKET

U.S. RevPAR -0.7% y/y last week; Headline results not so different from prior weeks, but many undercurrents

As Truist Securities wrote, "Overall, U.S. RevPAR was -0.7% y/y for the week ending 10/18/2025, per STR/CoStar, below the prior week's result of +0.6% y/y and above the trailing 10-week average of -1.2% y/y. Last week's results were noisy due to several factors: y/y hurricane-related comps, Dreamforce conference in San Francisco, continued bifurcation in discretionary spend, Group occupancy weakness likely from attrition, and the holiday shift of Yom Kippur in last year's Saturday comp (the latter seemingly less impactful to results). Upscale RevPAR: -2.3% y/y; Upper Midscale RevPAR: -2.6% y/y."
