Social media campaign launched to address vaccine hesitancy and combat misinformation

Did you know the COVID-19 vaccines are based on 50 years of scientific research? The vaccine lowers the risk of hospitalization and death. In the U.S. more than 200 million people have received the COVID-19 vaccine since FDA approval.

LACOE has launched a toolkit for sharing these facts and other vital information about COVID-19 testing and vaccination. The toolkit aims to combat misinformation and address vaccine hesitancy. Knowing the facts helps keep students and families safe, and helps schools stay open. As part of the All In campaign, this social media push includes a series of videos for sharing on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok.

The path to educational success was not easy for David Vera Robles, a high school senior at La Mirada HS in Norwalk-La Mirada USD, who missed summer enrichment programs to help his farmworker parents pick oranges during his summer break. David’s courage and resilience earned him the Association of LA County Office School Administrators (ALACOSA) Every Student Succeeding scholarship award.

“(David) is a testament to the fact that, when given support and resources, migrant students can excel,” said Francisco Ramirez, Norwalk-La Mirada USD coordinator of Supplemental Education Programs. ALACOSA honored David, as well as the eight Administrators of the Year, during a virtual ceremony last week.

Affordable Connectivity Program

Do you know someone who needs help paying for broadband access? The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) provides up to $30 per month for eligible families (as much as $75 per month for families located on qualifying tribal lands).

ACP replaces the former program, Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB), which ended in 2021. That means all EBB participants will need to requalify for the ACP program to continue receiving benefits. The program administrator or their internet service provider will contact current EBB recipients with next steps on how to transition.

To have a positive classroom management system, teachers must separate cultural behaviors from disruptive behaviors. In many cases, the two are confused due to biases, misperceptions and miscommunications. Participants will work through a process of reflecting on their unconscious biases, learning about cultural behaviors according to research and practicing management strategies for building on the cultural behaviors.
