Dear Colleagues and Community Members,

October is here! This month, we recognize Hispanic and Latine Heritage Month, Substance Use Prevention Month, Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and coming of Fall. The arrival of a new quarter and a new season brings fresh opportunities to achieve remarkable work together. I want to express my gratitude to the entire General Sessions team for consistently focusing on what matters most: serving the people of Shelby County.

Our work is challenging, but I am proud of what we've accomplished this month:

  • Our Civil team is making significant progress in improving efficiency across all court operations.
  • We are on track to launch our system-wide eFiling update in mid-2026.

The weeks ahead will be busy, but I look forward to continuing our excellent work and serving the community while enhancing access to justice for everyone. I am deeply thankful for each of you and remain committed to leading this office with strength and integrity.

In Service,

Tamara A. Sawyer

Shelby County General Sessions Court Clerk

Civil Division Continues Making Positive Strides

In addition to clearing more than 11,000 cases from the backlog this summer, our Civil team is continuing to make strides in improving General Sessions operations. Since last month, the team has worked hard to improve operations in the Civil division, reducing the amount of paperwork and moving cases along more smoothly overall.

EFiling Planned to Launch in 2026

In partnership with Shelby County Government and Catalis, General Sessions is moving to bring eFiling to our current case management system by Q3 FY26. This modern platform will allow attorneys to securely upload, track, and manage case documents online—streamlining workflows, reducing administrative burden, and accelerating case processing.

Pop Out Award Winner🍿Mae Arnold🏆

Congratulations to Deputy Court Clerk Mae Arnold, our September Pop-Out Award Winner! Mae consistently goes above and beyond, whether it's completing Attested Copy Requests, working tirelessly on our critical projects, or providing outstanding support to the Records department.

Mae's bright smile, attention to detail, and genuine care for our customers make her an invaluable part of our team. And shoutout to our August Pop-Out award winner, Tevin, for sharing his fantastic energy in celebration.

General Sessions Appreciation Breakfast

The General Sessions Employee Appreciation Breakfast brought the team together for good food, gratitude, and connection. We are grateful to have such a hard-working group of professionals serving our community!

Celebrating "The Real OGs"

Arrest-to-Bail Operations Director Marjorie Williams held a special recognition for the "Real OGs" at the 24-hour Clerk's office—staff members who have dedicated over twenty years of service to Shelby County.

We want to express our gratitude to Shara Wallace, Andrea Lewis, Brandon Johnson, and to all of our Real OGs in the 24-hour Clerk's office! We look forward to celebrating all of our Real OGs in General Sessions in the coming months.
