OMEF Providing Mentors to PA Students

OSPA is proud to have partnered with the Oregon Medical Education Fund (OMEF) on providing mentors to PA students who are looking for support during their academic years. The program is a great way for PAs to share their experience and knowledge with PAs who are on the verge of entering the professional field.

Jeff Myers, PA, is an Assistant Professor of Palliative Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University, where he combines clinical leadership with a strong commitment to education and advocacy. His background with AmeriCorps, the American Red Cross, and public health training in Australia has deeply influenced his compassionate, patient-centered approach. Since joining OHSU's inpatient palliative care team in 2013, he has served as interim section leader and clinical director while mentoring students and presenting widely on best practices in symptom management and communication.

Beyond his clinical and teaching roles, Jeff contributes to the field through published work and national leadership. As a key figure in the Physician Associates in Hospice and Palliative Medicine (PAHPM), he helped establish the CAQ in Palliative Medicine and Hospice Care, advancing professional recognition for PAs in this specialty. He also serves on the Board of Trustees for the PA History Society, honoring the legacy of the profession while shaping its future.

GAC Updates

OSPA Lobby Day included eight OSPA members meeting legislators in Salem to talk about interstate licensure compact, PA's working as medical examiners, PAs ability to prescribe death with dignity. Thanks to all that were able to attend. Please consider attending next time if you were not able this year.

SB 536 Update

This is our medical examiners bill. It passed the Oregon Senate on 3/24/2025.  It is scheduled for a public hearing on 4/17/2025 in the House Behavioral Health and Health Care Committee.  We are currently recruiting members to testify. If you are interested, please let me know.

HB 3060 Update

This is our interstate compact bill.  Unfortunately, the legislature has chosen not to advance any interstate compact bills this session, including the PA Licensure Compact legislation.  The concerns remain related to unintended consequences for joining these types of compacts. This despite Oregon having joined other health licensing board compacts in the past.

SB 1003 Update

This is the Death with Dignity bill.  This bill is riddled with controversy.  Unlikely to go anywhere this session.

Worker's Comp

We are looking to elevate PAs to level 1 attending providers for Worker's Comp. SAIF has already gone on record stating they would be in favor of this change.
