Greetings...
Contributing Kindness.
I’ve been reflecting on this last year. Incredible. A line from the classic Grateful Dead song Truckin’ comes to mind again, “Lately it occurs to me, what a long, strange trip it’s been.” This year we have seen and felt a continuation of things that we have never seen before. We have seen and felt a continued separation and too often lost track of each other. Yes, long and strange trip indeed.

And yet, simple sensations matter. I’ve been thinking about one of the North Stars for Mind Body Solutions. Yes, we teach yoga and train yoga teachers. Yes, we train healthcare professionals. Yes, we try to raise the voice and wisdom of people living with trauma, loss, and disability and their caregivers. But the ‘how’ also matters to us. We strive to lead with the sensation of kindness in every interaction. Of course, we do not succeed in every instance. But we try. We believe kindness occurs when minds and bodies of all abilities show up together in whatever way this bizarre time allows….when a grounding exhale leads to a smiling inhale…when we remember that life is experienced together.

So at Mind Body Solutions, we want to thank you for supporting our work. We also want to invite you to join us. In 2022, we hope to up our game. We are going to double-down our contribution of kindness to the world on this long, strange trip.

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Pose of the month...
Side by Side Contribution
“No human relation gives one possession in another—every two souls are absolutely different. In friendship or in love, the two side-by-side raise hands together to find what one cannot reach alone."

- Kahlil Gibran
Though our souls are unique, we are all connected. Our existences are deeply interdependent with everyone and everything around us. Our thoughts, words, actions, and habits not only affect and shape ourselves but impact one another. Attitudes and actions can be contagious, contributing to a collaborative, more humane world.

As the parable of the long spoons demonstrates, when we sit side by side, with a little teamwork and ingenuity we can uncover ways to hold one another up. Hands down (or hands up), contributing to the well-being of others is contributing to our own health and happiness.

Mudra of the Month: Visuddhi / Throat Chakra Mudra
Visuddha (or vishuddhi) is the Sanskrit name for the chakra located in the throat area. The name comes from the Sanskrit, shuddhi, which means “pure,” and the root, vi, which intensifies the word; therefore, vishuddhi means “especially pure.” This month's mudra encourages truth, knowledge, kindness, and wisdom and mudra helps us to convey these attributes in thoughtful speech.
