IMPORTANT CAR RIDE LINE ANNOUNCEMENT
Parents arriving to wait in the afternoon K-5 car rider line off of Autumn Gate Drive, please make sure that the entrance to the Fire Lane (3
rd
lane on the right) isn’t blocked, and cars are free to move through. We understand that space for cars is tight right now, but our Pre-Kindergarten students start dismissing at 2:10--earlier than the K-5 students. We are loaded up and gone before the K-5 car rider line starts moving! Our Pre-K parents & caregivers need to be able to utilize that Fire Lane in order to get to our dismissal line. There is no other way. Please understand that when our parents & caregivers arrive and the lane is blocked, they must turn around, go back around the school and find alternate parking somewhere, which causes them to be late to pick up our littlest Oak Ridge Colts. And those little Colts are excitedly expecting their caregivers to be there waiting with a big hug! Thank you for your help and understanding!
Your friendly Pre-K teacher,
Mrs. Ann

A Message from ORES Principal Denise Francisco
|
What an amazing 1
st
week of school we had! On behalf of the entire staff, I would like to thank all of our parents for being such outstanding partners and supporters of this fine school! As I visited classrooms this week, I witnessed happy and engaged students who are eager to learn. We appreciate all that you do at home in preparing our students to have successful days at school! We also want to thank everyone for their outstanding cooperation with our morning arrival processes and procedures. As always, please let us know how we are doing and if there is ever anything we can do to assist you or improve your experience at our school!
We encourage parents as we begin week 2 to begin using our official Car Rider Line if you are not riding a bus to school. For parents who are new to Oak Ridge, we know that separation can be hard in the mornings but sometimes it is even more difficult to say goodbye in the hallway so we encourage parents to use the car rider line starting week 2 so that the students get more accustomed to saying good bye in the car and then coming into the school and walking to class independently. We are here to help those that still need assistance walking to their classroom.
We know that many parents are still waiting for confirmation on your child’s bus route. The school system has established a Bus Call Center for parents to call for information about your child’s bus route and the status of being assigned a bus. Please call 336-378-6445 for information about your child’s bus and bus route.
We hope that everyone has a nice Labor Day Holiday. We look forward to seeing all students on Tuesday morning. We have two big announcements for this week. First, on Tuesday, September 3
rd
our PTO kicks off the Annual Cash for Colts PTO Fundraiser! Cash for Colts is the primary fundraiser for the Oak Ridge Elementary PTO. It is a direct donation campaign in which ORE families donate money directly to the PTO. Cash for Colts funds all of the services and programs that the PTO offer our students, families and the school throughout the year. Donations will be accepted through September 30th. You can learn more about Cash for Colts including the raffle prizes that students can win by visiting
www.orespto.com
for more details.
Our second big announcement for the week is a reminder to please attend our PTO Meeting and Parent Night this coming Wednesday, September 4
th
. The PTO Meeting will begin at 5:30 in the gym. Each teacher will then offer two sessions so that you can attend for more than one child if you have multiple children at Oak Ridge. Session 1 for each teacher will run from 6:00-7:00 and session 2 for each teacher will run from 7:00-8:00. If you only have one student at Oak Ridge you can choose which session you would like to attend. Specialist teachers and Support Staff will also be here during both sessions to meet with you so please stop by and visit all of these rooms in our school. It is important that "parents only" - if at all possible - attend due to space in the classrooms and also the nature of the presentations that our teachers will be presenting. Teachers will be speaking with parents about classroom policies, procedures, and about the Curriculum and Standards that your children will be learning this school year. It will be a very informative night and we look forward to seeing all of our parents here next Wed. night.
Have a great week and again thank you for your continued support,
Mrs. Francisco

Breakfast at Oak Ridge Elementary
|
|
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day for children's health. Here at ORES the cafeteria staff wants to make sure that each child's day begins with a balanced breakfast. At breakfast, children have the option to choose a hot of cold item, fruit, milk and juice. The cost is $1.00 unless your child receives free/reduced lunch (in which case there is no charge for breakfast) We would love to see your child give our school breakfast a try. Thank you for supporting the School & Nutrition program at ORES!

Sunday, September 15th is International Dot Day, and on
Friday, September 13th
, all Oak Ridge Art students, teachers, and staff, along with over 12 million participants in 173 countries, will be celebrating their unique-ness and ability to ‘make a mark’ in this world through the inspiration and philosophy of Peter Reynolds, author and illustrator of ‘The Dot’ and ‘Ish’.
In all Art classes, students will learn what it means to be themselves, to be encouraged by others, and to not be afraid to show who they are as individuals.
All students and staff will have the opportunity to express themselves creatively by wearing ‘dots’ or by wearing something to express their personality and unique-ness on Friday, September 13th, and all Art students will be creating ‘dot masterpieces’ to be dotted all around our school the week of International Dot Day September 9th-13th!
