Harbouring Hope Returns for Season 2

I'm excited to share that our podcast, Harbouring Hope, is back for a second season.

We launched the podcast to bring people further into the fold of how healthcare works on Vancouver Island - going beyond the headlines and sitting down with the people shaping care across Central and North Vancouver Island. After such a positive response to Season 1, we’re back with six new episodes, with a new conversation released every month.

This season, we’re digging deeper into advocacy, innovation, philanthropy and the bold ideas moving healthcare forward in our region.

Our first episode brings me together with Donna Hais and Jon Waddell of the Fair Care Alliance to talk about the continued fight for fair access to healthcare, and what determined people can accomplish when they refuse to accept the status quo. It is an honest, hopeful conversation about how far we have come and why our collective voice still matters. I hope you’ll listen, subscribe and join us for the conversations ahead. Search Harbouring Hope wherever you listen to podcasts.

Canada Cycles for Kids made a memorable stop at NRGH, presenting a generous $53,250 donation to support care for mothers and babies in this region.

Their gift will fund a dedicated cautery machine for the Perinatal Operating Room and helped complete the funding for new fetal monitors in the NRGH Perinatal Unit.

Following the presentation, riders toured the Perinatal Unit, met members of the healthcare team and saw firsthand how donor-funded equipment improves patient care.

Thank you to the cyclists, volunteers, sponsors and supporters who made Nanaimo part of this remarkable 25th anniversary journey.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, funding is now complete for 20 new fetal monitors at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. Throughout the campaign, our community came together to help bring this essential technology to our Perinatal/Maternity Unit.

We would like to extend a special thank you to:

  • Over $130,000 in donations from the Ladysmith Health Care Auxiliary
  • $30,000 contribution from the Dirt Cup
  • $24,500 donation from Canada Cycles for Kids

Fetal monitors provide continuous, real-time information about a baby’s heart rate and a mother’s contractions, helping healthcare teams identify concerns early and respond quickly when every second matters. To everyone who supported this life-saving campaign for our smallest of patients - thank you.
