Clearing & Reconciling Voter Rolls
Managing voter rolls is a critical process in ensuring the integrity of elections. This involves meticulously reviewing voter registration records to remove duplicates, outdated information, and deceased individuals from the voter database.
Our staff monitors local newspapers for obituaries as well as process cancellation notices from the state when someone is convicted of a felony or passes away.
The U.S. Post Office plays a vital role in our list maintenance as well.
If a piece of election mail is returned undeliverable, we must send a “Final Notice” to the same address used for the initial mailing. If the election mail is returned with a forwarding address, we send a “final notice” to the new address which includes information on how to update their address and warns them that they will be moved to “inactive” status if they do not respond. If a registrant is moved to “inactive” status and fails to vote in any election for two federal cycles following the notice, they will be canceled.
Our office also uses the National Change of Address information supplied by USPS to help identify voters who may have moved.
This process allows us to immediately issue a “final notice” before moving them to inactive status. If a registrant is moved to “inactive” and fails to vote in any election for two federal cycles following the notice, they are canceled.
