MCHwork Provides Micro-Learning Addressing the Needs of MCH Professionals

The National MCH Workforce Development Center and the MCH Navigator have teamed up to share a new microlearning program, MCHwork, to actively engage busy professionals in the field on thematic topics. This ongoing program draws upon the evidence-based theory of spaced microlearning to ensure that learning happens in small bursts at regular intervals to maximize the learning process. MCHwork addresses knowledge and skills related to some of the most pressing issues of our time, starting with health equity in year one and moving onto community partnerships, evaluation and assessment, aligning plans and strategy building, and communication in subsequent years.

New learning modules will appear quarterly. Current topics include three modules in the Focus on Health Equity series and two modules in the Focus on Community Partnership series.

Check out the series on the MCHwork page on the MCH Navigator.

Interns from the Title V MCH Internship Program Begin Work in Twelve States

Each summer, the National MCH Workforce Development Center supports teams of MCH students to participate in internships in state and jurisdictional Title V programs. Each two-person team consists of a graduate MCH student from a Center of Excellence in Maternal and Child Health and an MCH student from either an MCH Leadership, Education, and Advancement in Undergraduate Pathways (LEAP) Training Program or from an MCH graduate Public Health Catalyst program.

The Title V MCH Internship Program has finished recruiting for 2o23 and has placed 24 interns in 12 states for the upcoming summer. This year's state's are:

  • California
  • Massachusetts
  • Minnesota
  • Oklahoma
  • Oregon
  • Tennessee
  • Texas
  • Utah
  • Vermont
  • Virginia
  • Wisconsin
  • Wyoming

The aim of the Title V MCH Internship Program is to provide future MCH professionals with experience working in state and jurisdictional Title V agencies, with mentorship and guidance from Title V agency preceptors. The ‘team’ aspect of the program allows students to engage and contribute together under the guidance of the agency preceptor and also to learn new knowledge and skills from each other.

Following the internship, the students present on the lessons learned from the experience. View the 2022 student internship presentations on Vimeo.

The application period for states wishing to host a summer intern begin in fall. Visit the website or contact Gabriella Masini at titlevmchinternship@uic.edu for more information.
