DECEMBER 2019 NEWSLETTER
Here are the rest of this month's happenings. Lifts are starting to turn! Keep the snow dances coming.
FALL MEMBERSHIP MEETING THANK YOU
Thanks to all who helped make our Fall Membership meeting such a special night last month!

The food was delicious, the company top notch. Our guest speakers Linda Klind from Heartland Hunger Resource and Brett Shepherd from Tamarack Resort shared some very insightful information about local programming for those in need and how to better protect ourselves virtually.

We want to give a BIG THANK YOU to the sponsors that helped make the evening possible: Ruby's Kitchen, RE/MAX Resort Realty, Gallery Fifty-Five, Salmon River Brewery, Forester's Club, McCall Weddings, and McCall Party Rentals.
DOWNTOWN TREE LIGHTING SUCCESS
Last weekend a large crowd gathered on newly reconstructed 2nd Street to help light the new tree for the holiday season!

The night was perfectly McCall with kiddos ice skating at the rink, sipping hot chocolate to raise money for the Payette Lakes Community Association's after school program, visiting with Santa at the T-Rents Vintage staging area, boogieing to the music provided by DJ McCall, and enjoying the beautiful glow of the new lights that Parks and Rec diligently strung (1 miles worth). Tree goers got to visit with the McCall Public Library, Bear Basin Nordic Center, and the Idaho Sled Dog Challenge. Special guests of honor, State Champions from the McCall Donnelly High School, Santa, and our mayor Jackie Aymon led the countdown for her final tree lighting after 9 years on City Council.

A heartfelt thank you to all the community partners who helped make the night come together! City of McCall, McCall Parks and Rec, Franklin Building Supply, DJ McCall, T-Rents Vintage, Manchester Ice Rink, and the McCall Area Chamber team.

We already have big plans for next year so be sure to mark your calendars for the first Friday in December next year!

MCCALL ROTARY SEEKING LOCAL BUSINESS PRESENTATIONS FOR 2020
Dear Fellow Chamber Members,

Not only am I a fellow McCall Chamber Member and local business owner of McCall Jewelry Company, but I’m also a member of the McCall Rotary Club. As a Rotarian, I oversee scheduling speakers for our weekly meetings and came up with the idea of highlighting local chamber members and businesses for 2020. It would be a good time to introduce yourself to our club, give us some background on yourself and your business, and make our members aware of the products and/or services you offer. Also, if you have a community and/or charitable event in which you are involved you could introduce that as well.

To give you some background, the McCall Rotary Club is a service-based organization whose motto is, “Service Above Self.” We have over 70 members from diverse backgrounds who have had or are having successful careers. They are some of the most vested individuals in the community and do much good for many via donations and direct service. Really a great group of men and women, some of which you may already know. Our meetings start at noon on Wednesdays and usually last until about 1:30. Our current meeting place is Banyans on the Green Restaurant inside the McCall Golf Course Clubhouse. Besides some usual club business, we offer a catered lunch as well as speakers. Presentations last about 15-20 minutes with a short Q & A afterwards (and of course a free lunch before!).

If you are interested, please email me at the address below and let me know what date works and I’ll get it scheduled. Also, if you’d like to team up with another business that would be great. Sometimes there is strength in numbers! As a side note, I will be out of the area the first couple weeks of November, so don’t be alarmed if I don’t get back to you right away. Of course, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Thanks for your consideration,

George Seeds

DEPARTMENT OF LABOR ANNOUNCES ROTATING OFFICE LOCATIONS AND HOURS
A Message from Julie Heidemann, local Department of Labor representative:

Greetings!

As you may be aware….14 Labor offices in the state have closed due to budget cuts and have gone in to “Remote Service Delivery” to better assist our communities. Now that some of the dust has cleared and we are operating in our new locations, I wanted to share the new Idaho Department of Labor Schedule for our area.

Labor staff will offer walk-in hours and appointment times in these communities with the same services staff have traditionally provided. Those include job search planning, career guidance, resume writing, applying for jobs, filing for unemployment insurance benefits, mock interviews, connections to community resources, job training assistance and more. Staff will also continue to serve businesses with listing open jobs, collecting applications, connecting to resources and assisting with recruitment and other business service needs.

Our public hours are as follows:

Mondays – McCall
Valley County Annex, 550 Deinhard Lane
9 a.m.-noon; 1-5 p.m., office hours

Tuesdays – Cascade
Valley County Courthouse, 219 Main St.
10 a.m.-1 p.m., office hours

Wednesdays – New Meadows

Thursdays – Council
EMS Building, 106 Industrial Ave.
10 a.m.-1 p.m., office hours

Fridays – McCall
Valley County Annex, 550 Deinhard Lane

MCCALL PUBLIC LIBRARY &
MCCALL COMMUNITY CENTER CALENDAR
The McCall Community Center has a new coordinator!

We welcome Darlene Limbaugh to the community. A little bit about Darlene!

"My name is Darlene Limbaugh, director/coordinator to the McCall Senior Center since May, 2019. My husband and I moved here from Sandpoint, ID to retire after 37 years as a certified pharmacy tech.  Our son is retiring after 35 years in the National Guard and living in Donnelly, ID. Since we all enjoy the outdoors , what better area to move to.

I enjoy the senior center so much and it is a great learning adventure. Looking forward to all the new projects there is planned for the center and doing more with the Chamber of Commerce. What a new learning experience and meeting new people. Come see me at the senior center."

WCMEDC RELEASES HOUSING
SURVEY RESULTS
Throughout the summer and early fall of 2019, the WCMEDC conducted a needs assessment for housing across the West Central Mountains region of Idaho, which included the towns of Cascade, Donnelly, McCall, unincorporated Valley County, New Meadows, and unincorporated northern Adams County (Meadows Valley). This assessment was conducted through a survey of employees across the region. They were asked to answer the following 21 questions to learn about employee housing needs and real and perceived sense of housing security now and in the future. The goal for this data is to better understand what housing types should be built, where and at what price point.

Over 600 respondents completed the survey to give some viable housing feedback for the region. To see the results of the housing survey, click on the button below!
