I invite you to celebrate with me this month. May holds not only the keys to my actual birthday, but also to the birth of my coaching business 11 years ago! Birthdays are all about honoring oneself and reflecting forward and I plan to make both my actual birthday and my business owner anniversary extra special this year with wishes that can stick and grow along with me! Join me by making impactful wishes in your life! Let’s celebrate change together!

You may have noticed last month that I did not send out an April newsletter. I did not forget to, rather this was done intentionally. That is because I believe that every great wish or goal needs to be preceded by a pause to get quiet and reboot. My daily meditation practice reminds me to “turn off the thinking” for a moment and I recommend that you take a breath to do the same. Stop thinking! Just for a minute. Make space for being in the moment. It is in this peaceful and insightful time that our truth becomes most apparent. With the noise off, we understand where we really are and what is most important to us in today terms. Success gets recognized. Change blooms from that perspective.

To create a wish that becomes something meaningful, we first need to understand not only what we want next but why we want that thing now. If you have made wishes in the past (and haven’t we all) and they have not in the fairytale mindset “come true” then it is likely because your understanding of what you most want to manifest is not in alignment with why you want it. Sometimes our ask is too big or even dated and based on what we wished for on previous birthdays or starry nights. The magic of a wish is not dependent on pixie dust or luck but rather on our own ability to visualize change and to drive that imagery forward every day. The WOW of a wish is not someone else’s lift but rather our own.

Just like setting goals, wishes are co-dependent on our own ability to get clear on what is important and to do the work that is needed to shift things in that direction. Wishes are not a list for Santa, but rather a checklist of successes we want to make sure that we bring to life every day by mentally setting and acting on agendas that fuel the essence of the aspiration itself. The wish work belongs to us. It transcends and transforms.

Here are 4 ways to tackle and active your WISH WORK:

Stop chasing tomorrow and wish for today: Most of us play a waiting game with ourselves. We set a goal or thought in motion and then tell ourselves that we can attain that thing we most want WHEN something in the future (more time, more money, less responsibility, more visibility) is available to us. Then we glamourize how that will make us feel happy, successful, fulfilled, less anxious. Then life gets in the way, and we don’t get traction on that goal or thought because we were waiting for something to happen tomorrow rather than making something happen today.

TRY THIS: Instead of wishing on an idea or a feeling and following the possibility down the road, wish on the one small aspect you can impact NOW. Steer yourself toward that thing…your one thing. What can you do today that will take you one small step, one commitment closer to what you most want?

Wish smaller! Yes, this is the opposite of what we are always told, which is to wish big! Yet, it is small pieces that assemble the larger idea. When that smaller wish sticks, celebrate and acknowledge your win and wish again for the next piece of your goal. Breaking down your wish into smaller parts will bring more success to the overall equation.

Be creative: Rework your wishes so that you can grab hold of aspects of them even if the whole wish is not immediately attainable. Example: Your wish is to see the world, to travel more and to immerse yourself in other cultures. Maybe you wished this at your birthday, or at an anniversary. Great wish. Yet, the budget and time to support that may not actually exist in the traditional sense. Being creative with your wish can allow in aspects of that wish into the present moment, generating a feeling of success and accomplishment and getting you closer to your goal of extended travel. Think about ways to drive this travel bug differently and still expose yourself to other cultures and people. Here are some ideas:

- Challenge yourself to eat a different cuisine every day for a week or even every day for a month! If you live in a major city that is certainly possible!

- Read books and watch movies that take place in the places you want to visit. Picture yourself in the story.

- Explore ways to trade apartments, take classes, attend a summit or conference in places you would like to explore. Dive into what is possible in a non-traditional sense and how it can get you a bit closer to your goal.

- Immerse yourself in a foreign land or different local by committing to a month living and working there. Try it on an try it out.

Don’t quit, PIVOT: Along with chasing tomorrow, we also tend to focus on HOW we are going to do something. Let’s face it, if you make a wish and then get trapped in how you will ever make that happen, you greatly reduce your chances of that wish materializing. So next time you wish for something believe in what that wish is and why you want it. Envision your life with that wish as a reality. What is different for you if you lived this dream? How you will get your wish will disable your ability to do so because how is where fear hangs out. If you begin to act as if you have the goal, you will organically move closer to elements of it. If you feel yourself veering off course or quitting STOP. Re-evaluate your wish. Where can you tweak it and pivot toward another aspect of it rather than quitting because of fear or other obstacles?

Wishing may not make it so…but the decisions and choices you activate can! Want to master your wish work? Let’s connect!
