Good Friends, Great Roads & a Little Storm Preparation

We just can't say enough good things about the Petrolicious team and how much fun we had during those days of filming.

The second half of our adventure will be out soon, featuring our visit to Klocke Estates in Hudson, NY, followed by a pretty amazing picnic with some great friends and one of those sunsets that makes you stop, take a deep breath and appreciate just how good life can be.

Jacob, our director, was wonderful to work with, and he also took the photograph featured in this week's email. I think it captures that little moment in time perfectly.

Good food, good wine, great friends and a little time to enjoy it all.

That's what it's really about.

Meanwhile, back here in Connecticut, current day, it looks like we may have some weather heading our way Sunday afternoon into Monday.

And Monday is a holiday, so...

Pajama day!!!!

But Saturday is supposed to be beautiful!

So get out, enjoy the day and stop by to say hi!

We'll be tasting Montgomery Cheddar at both cheese shops, and Gary will be pouring three wines at 109 Wine in Ridgefield from 12–5.

More on those below.

And while you're here, maybe pick up a few provisions for Sunday and Monday.

Cheese, wine, 109 pizzas, soups and appetizers.

Okay, maybe some batteries and flashlights too. Just in case.

Stay safe, enjoy a little time at home and hopefully we'll all be back out enjoying the fall weather before long.

And remember, a well-stocked cheese board doesn't require electricity. Just a little imagination, good company and maybe a candle.

Montgomery's Cheddar a Farmhouse Favorite

We've tasted a lot of cheddar over the years. A LOT.

And Montgomery's remains one of our constants.

Made by the Montgomery family in Somerset, England, this is old-school farmhouse cheddar. Raw cow's milk, traditional cultures, clothbound wheels and just the right amount of time to develop into something we love. Finished by affineur Neal's Yard Dairy.

The wheels are aged for roughly 12 to 18 months, developing that wonderful combination of nutty, earthy and savory flavors, with a texture that can be both crumbly and creamy.

And here's one of the things we love about farmhouse cheese, especially Montgomery's.

Not every wheel tastes exactly the same.

The milk changes with the seasons, the cheese develops as it ages, and that's part of what makes real farmhouse cheese so interesting.

This time of year, grab a crisp fall apple, a little chutney and a good bottle of wine. Or a glass of cider.

We'll be tasting Montgomery's at both Ridgefield and Kent this Saturday.

Come have a taste and see why, after all these years, we still get excited about a really great cheddar.

And yes, we eat a lot of cheese at home too. As you all know!

Three Wines, Three Very Different Destinations

This Saturday Gary is taking us on a little wine trip aboard his private jet.

BTW, his jet looks remarkably like a wine store, and it never really takes off or lands.

First stop, Sicily, with the Fumante Etna Bianco 2025.

This wine comes from the slopes of an active volcano. Mount Etna is home to some fascinating vineyards, where volcanic soils, elevation and cooler mountain temperatures help produce whites with wonderful freshness and character.

Citrus, a bit of minerality and a little salty edge. Exactly the kind of white we love with seafood, fresh fish or a nice piece of cheese.

A white wine from a volcano. Worth the adventure!

Next, we're heading to Oregon's Willamette Valley (one of our favorite places) for the Granville Farmhouse Pinot Noir 2023.

Oregon Pinot Noir is a great way to introduce someone to the elegance of this grape. Red cherries, berries, a little earthiness and enough freshness to make you want a little more.

And with fall cooking underway, think roasted chicken, mushrooms and those dinners that start a little earlier now that the sun is setting sooner.

Then off to the fireplace to finish the evening.

Finally, let's touch down in Tuscany for the Tua Rita Rosso dei Notri 2025.

This is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah from one of Tuscany's highly regarded producers.

Rich dark fruit, a little spice, smooth tannins and plenty of hiya.

A wonderful bottle to put on the table with a 109 pizza, some of our pizza provisions or a nice bowl of pasta with a garden tomato sauce made from all those tomatoes you didn't know what to do with.

Sicily. Oregon. Tuscany.

Three very different wines, and three good reasons to spend a little time in the 109 lounge with Gary this Saturday.

No boarding passes needed. Just come as you are and let's enjoy a peaceful Saturday at 109 Wine.

We'll be pouring Saturday from 12–5 at 109 Wine in Ridgefield.

Let's taste and learn together. See you Saturday!

Jessica, the 109 Team and You!

We've always believed that a great cheese board should taste as good as it looks. And after all these years of playing with cheese, we're still finding new ways to have fun with it.

We've been adding edible flowers to our boards for years, so teaming up with Botanicals by Jessica for an evening of cheese, charcuterie, seasonal flowers and a little creativity.

We'll show you how to think about building and styling a great cheese & charcuterie board, and Jessica will show us how to bring seasonal blooms into the presentation.

A little cheese knowledge, a little floral design and a lot of fun.

Bandit's Corner

I'm feeling pretty confident these days.

Maybe it's the longer legs, being able to reach things on the counter, or just figuring out this thing called life. Or maybe it's that I'm kinda buff! Don't ya think.

I've also discovered that a new view gives you a whole new perspective. You should try it.

Mom and Dad say I'm growing up. Maybe so, but I still have plenty of questions.

Here's what I do know.

My people are my world.

I've been on this planet for less than a year, but I've already figured out a few things that seem pretty important.

Live every day. Don't just wait around for something interesting to happen.

Get up. Stretch. Go outside. Smell something new. Chase a leaf. Take a ride. Eat something delicious. Take a nap. Naps are sooooo good. never underestimate a nap.

And if you're ever unsure what to do, ask yourself, "What would Martha do?"

That's Martha Stewart, by the way.

Mom and Dad say it around the house all the time. I'm still figuring out exactly what it means, but I suspect it involves doing things properly, making something delicious and having everything look beautiful.

I can handle the delicious part.

Another thing I've learned is to be kind. Be thoughtful. And try to come from a place of love.

Even if it means giving up your favorite toy.

That's still a work in progress.

Now, I'm not saying this is easy. There are certain toys in my collection that I feel very strongly about. Like the ones I snagged from Aunt Michelle. And if someone wanted my last piece of cheese, we might need to have a conversation.

But I'm learning that sharing something you love with someone you love can actually feel pretty good.

Who knew?

I also know that life isn't always perfect. Sometimes things don't go the way you planned. Sometimes you get told no. Sometimes the treat jar closes before you think it should.

But tomorrow is another day, and there are still plenty of things to discover.

Mom and Dad keep telling me I'm growing up.

I suppose I am.

I'm getting taller, stronger and a little more independent. But I still want to know where my people are, what they're doing and whether there's room for me to come along.

Because being confident doesn't mean you don't need anyone. Just the opposite.

Maybe it means knowing you've got people who love you, even when you do something silly.

And trust me, I have plenty of silly left in me.

Bandit thought of the week: Live every day. Be kind. Be thoughtful. Come from a place of love. And when you're not sure what to do, ask yourself, "What would Martha do?"

Just remember to share your toys once in a while.

The cheese? Well, let's not get carried away.

Love you all,

Bandit
