Two opportunities for vestries to gather

at Honey Creek

Last year, Bishop Logue and Diocesan Staff offered a Vestry Retreat for Vestries to attend. The event filled up last year, there will be two of them this year!  Since some congregations elect their new Vestry members in December, and others elect in the late part of January, we are offering the retreats January 8-9, 2027 and February 26-27, 2027.

At the retreat there will be teaching grouped into two large categories: 1) what a Vestry must do, and 2) what a Vestry can do. The first category includes core responsibilities both internal to the congregation and external, to the Diocese. The second category is where Vestries have the opportunity to exercise leadership by setting goals for the coming year, spending time together on some kind of formation, or other opportunities.

Each Vestry will also have time on their own to spend looking at their own congregation and the coming year. At last year’s retreat, one participant reported that “our Vestry benefited from being together in a relaxed atmosphere that didn't require decision making like we have to do in vestry meetings.” That same participant said “There's something about sharing meals and conversation that makes for closer communication and relationships.”

The specific dates for the retreats are January 8-9 and February 26-27. In both cases arrival will be on Friday afternoon and departure will be Saturday afternoon.

New Beginnings #66 brings a little whimsy

to Honey Creek

Around 40 students from across the Diocese came together to learn from one another, deepen their faith, and build new relationships. Special moments of the weekend included the Friday night 'Service of Light', Saturday's healing service and bonfire, and the Closing Eucharist led by the Rev.Tom Purdy of Christ Church Frederica on St. Simons Island. Lucy Pearson served as the Lead Teen for this New Beginnings.

Thank you to all our adult leaders who supported the weekend, especially the Rev. Nathan Wilson of St. Anne's, Tifton, who served as Spiritual Director, and Karen Bell, the New Beginnings Coordinator.

Save the Date: Walking with the Word Lenten Retreat

Bishop Frank and Victoria Logue will lead a deep dive in Holy Scripture in a Lenten Retreat during our year of reading the Bible with Methodists, Lutherans, and Episcopalians across Georgia (see below).

You do not need to be taking part in the Bible reading plan to benefit from learning more about the sacred texts that are the story God wants us to immerse ourselves in. The Retreat will start at 5 pm Friday and conclude by 3 pm on Saturday.

Discover the story that shaped human history

The Bible has shaped human history more than any other text. In less than 20 minutes a day you can read this world-shaping, life-changing story in all its strangeness and beauty. Along the way, we see how God breaks into human history bringing divine plans to fruition through ordinary people. From the patriarch Abraham to the persecutor of Christians, Saul who becomes the Apostle Paul. And from the Deborah and Esther who bring liberation to their people to Mary Magdalene who Jesus sent as the apostle to the apostles with the Good News of the resurrection.

As Methodists, Lutherans and Episcopalians across Georgia read the Bible together, we will be using a proven plan that makes this easier and more enjoyable than reading the 66 books front to back. We will offer monthly resources to assist you in better understanding the ways God has been present from the initial spark of creation to the end of the age.

So much of our language and common expressions come from this one collection of books. This is the story that the maker of heaven and earth wants you to read and reflect on. Plan now to begin the journey on November 29, 2026.

Redesignation of a Board of Corporation Fund:

The James H. Lewis Memorial Fund #29

The Bishop, Canon for Administration, and the Board of the Corporation are requesting to change the designated restricted use of the James H. Lewis Memorial Fund. It is currently listed “to be used for the work of the churches in Sylvania and Screven Counties.” There are no legal documents on file, and there has not been, and there is no plan for, a parish in this county. The current value is $107,000. If these monies are able to be allocated to other funds, it may be used for missions and programs that have relevance and current need. We are reaching out to the members of the Diocese for more information, to members of the Lewis family who may have input, or to others who may have questions. If no one presents a reason not to redesignate the funds, the board will distribute the value to one or more other restricted funds.

Spirituals Reimagined

Friday, Oct. 2, 2026, at 7 p.m.

Christ Church Episcopal, 28 Bull Street, Savannah, GA 31401

On Friday, October 2, historic Christ Church Episcopal on Johnson Square will present the premiere of Spirituals Reimagined, a set of arrangements of traditional Negro Spirituals for voices and strings. Headlining the concert is baritone Roger Moss, Jr., known locally in his role as President of the Savannah-Chatham County School Board, and composer-pianist Assaf Gleizner.

Negro Spirituals were a part of the culture and traditions that grew out of the horrors of the enslavement of Blacks in the United States. Following the Civil War, their popularity began to spread and they quickly became a staple of American churches from every background. Moss and Gleizner, the creative team behind Spirituals Reimagined, share a vision for this new work that speaks to the universality of the Spiritual and its cornerstone place in American music.

This concert is free and open to the public, but ticket reservations are requested. For more information or to reserve tickets, visit www.christchurchsavannah.org/concerts. Ticket donations received either online or via cash at the door will go in part to benefit Young Men of Honor, a Savannah-based nonprofit that educates and encourages underprivileged youth and bridges the opportunity gaps that prevent them from seeing a pathway to success in Savannah and beyond. Learn more at https://youngmenofhonor.org/.
